So what is the best kind of cake to eat with coffee in the afternoon? I've had a thick and rich piece of chocolate cake on my mind this morning. What is your favorite kind of cake to eat?:p

"Angel food" cakes are made using lots of egg whites, beaten to peaks and then lightly folded into a simple flour/sugar mixture. It puffs up into a cloud-like cake which is, in fact, heavenly with berries or crushed fruit or even simple whipped cream frosting.

Give me a coconut cheesecake and then go away, because I'll begrudge you every bite.

(That crab cake/jalapeno relish sounds FINE!)

I think he meant proper Fruit cake, like we have here, not that American storebought stuff, that doubles as cavity wall filler:wah:

Figures...you all'd have an improvement. OUR ''fruitcake'' can double as a door stop, a lethal weapon or something to hobble horses.

I'm not speaking personally, you understand, I've never tried one when I've been in the States. I read a discussion on another board about them, Brits couldn't understand why Americans hated them so much! I think the Americans understood eventually, when someone explained that our Fruitcakes are made up largely of booze! Oh yes....Gotta love them Fruitcakes:)

The Black Forest cake wins with me. Is that cherry inside? It would also be good with custard filling.

I've just fetched it. There's a little mouldy patch on the end, and a dent in it

where my young son trod on it! However, otherwise, it's in good condition,

considering it's just an end, less than half the original, and it's been on the

floor of the passenger footwell for a few weeks...

I'll cut the mouldy bit off. If there's any left I'm sure it'll be fine.

Maybe I will get all excited and cook one! I've got all the ingredients in that

recipe, not that I'd put much (if any) peel in it, or much nutmeg ditto. Wow!

Bother. I've remembered that I've got to go off and do the ironing. It's twenty

past 8! My goodness, doesn't time fly!

I prefer a tall glass of cold milk with my cake.

And I have to agree with Nomad, nothing beats yellow cake with chocolate frosting.
