Turning thirty

Post by scott »

Upto my mid twenties age was not something i ever considered, getting older that is or even approaching the end of life whenever that is(hopefully after a good innings). Im sure I had no real concept of my own mortality at that time in my life. As I approached thirty I started to feel slightly less immortal and my life became something that really felt quite fragile, something that needed to be cared for and looked after. As you do get older you see your family and friends getting older, close ones pass away and I think it was this for me that made life become so precious. Having children aswell seems to speed up time. They grow so quickly and it only seems like two minutes before christmas is knocking on our doors again. Now im the grand old age of 33 I feel the years are slipping by faster so we need to grab all the good things in life whilst we are able to and share some love and happiness with others. :)

Is that such a bad thing though? The need to grab all the good things in life whilst we are able to and share some love and happiness with others? It wasn't until I hit 40 that I actually learned to have fun. Closing in on 44 now, I figure life is too short to be miserable.

I'm 34. In my twenties, I always felt I was getting one year closer to the age I felt. Many of my friends are 6-10 yrs older than me. Apparently I have an "old soul". Now, every birthday, I forget how old I'm turning. It doesn't even seem relevant any more. I've always acted impish and have recently adopted the saying "I'm not childish because I'm naive, I'm childish because I am wise." Age really is in the mind. You have children, watch what gives them joy and learn.

youngsters.... you are all youngsters... 30... where was I when I turned 30... I think those were the hazy years. But age is irrelevant. I figure that I am getting better with each passing year.. just like a fine bottle of wine.

I agree with you most people do get better with age. Most of my friends are older than me, nearer my dad and my nans ages in fact.
Blessed be.

30, what a great age to be! You have so much to look forward to...don't worry you have pleanty of time. One day i woke up around 45 & said, my life feels like it is over. Things changed for me at that time. I believe the cause was from business pressures and people, i was tired. Now i am more tired..i wish people would just leave me alone.

Age is what you make of it. Have a ball and enjoy

and always remember

our kids age we don't teee heee heee

Peg I am in the same boat as you approaching 44 fast like.

Sad I came to realize this week, low rise jeans look cute but on my body squeeze the soft round parts up into love handles.

Short T's suit the kids but on my body expose my lower back and kidney area making me cold and miserable.

Tank tops are adorable on the svelt teen, but on my body show off the swingy parts of my under upper arm.

Shorts are for the carefree and young, but on my body simply reveal my vericous veins.

Soooooooooooooo I am off to the store to purchace girdle type stretch denim pants with waists at waist height and age appropriate. Then to wallMart for the shapless Tshirt that does nothing for my body shape but keeps my back side covered and warm.

I will never wear a tank or shorts again.

Gone is my youth of yesteryear.

To be honest with you I have to go back and recall what year I was born to make sure I am the age I am! lol,.............I really don't bother with my birthday any more, but I do make a fuss about my nephews and niece's birthdays!..............what does come to mind is that when you were younger you struggle to aquire and do all that the adults were doing, basically doing what you want within reason that is! then when you reach the top of your physical prime, it's the downhill slalem race of old age! watching everyone get decrepid and losing control of there body functions on the way down before we finally scoot off the edge into the fathomless void!.........there! I've said it now, lol, happy birthday everyone.

You go Peg! ( You and I are the same age) I feel the exact same way. You know...one nice thing about being older is that things you used to think were a big deal, now seem to be insignificant. The little stuff just doesn't bug you as much....

Fairy tales can come true, it can happen to you

If you're young at heart

For it's hard, you will find, to be narrow of mind

If you're young at heart

You can go to extremes with impossible schemes

You can laugh when your dreams fall apart at the seams

And life gets more exciting with each passing day

And love is either in your heart or on your way

Don't you know that it's worth every treasure on Earth

To be young at heart

For as rich as you are it's much better by far

To be young at heart

And if you should survive to 105

Look at all you'll derive out of being alive

Then here is the best part

You have a head start

If you are among the very young at heart
All the world's a stage and the men and women merely players...Shakespeare

You still worry about them and do everything you can for them but at the same time realise that its not up to us to make decisions for them anymore, you just provide the moral guidance and stand back and hope for the best, still giving loads of love and encouragement. That means we don't have to feel guilty anymore about making time for ourselves, because we know we've devoted so much time to them since they were tiny and made so many sacrifices for them that its time for us to enjoy ourselves a bit! You agree? Or am I being selfish? ;)

Oh I agree with you there. I think kids get it too as they mature and the like to see us parents happy with our lives and kids like to know we can let the control go a bit and give them the chance to grow and learn on their own.

Oh I so worry about my oldest but I have seen her mature over the past 3 months and I am convinced I taught her well.

My oldest will be 11 (april fools day), and i refuse to acknowledge she's growing up, always be my wee baby.

I got kinda upset when i turned 30, nearly 2 years ago. I just didn't want to leave my 20's at all, i thought somehow it would change me. But no - am still a big kid, sometimes i wonder who is more grown up - the kids or me? Now i embrace my 30's with the realisation that this chick has still got a lotta living to do.
