No less than the FDA is saying... don't even cook it. This is apparently

the really bad bacteria that some years back was in undercooked

hamburger.

Of course they are...."better safe, etc." The thing is...e-coli is all around us, all the time! They're just doing "spin control."

You're right, of course. I'm just glad I haven't gotten any recently

and now won't for a while!!

Something like 80% of the nation's spinach comes from the Salinas

Valley here in California... not good for the growers.

I had a big bag of NEWMAN'S OWN and just cooked it! With mushrooms and garlic and cheese. LOVELY!

I love spinach and silverbeet. Surely cooking gets rid of E Coli bugs????

Latest I heard is maybe not... the thinking is this e. coli might have

come in through a contaminated water source and been drawn in to

the leaves... so pretty firmly embedded. It's not something that was

on the surface. So I don't know. I guess we watch for Lulu posts for

a few days...

Includes a listing of the recalled brands: (Not that it matters really,

I expect it's ALL gone...)

FYI the canned is heated and thoroughly processed and likely done

at least a couple months ago... so eat that if you want!!

True...I suspect e coli wouldn't be able to survive in vegemite!

Amazing how they can do that, isn't it? Out of all the farms growing spinach--they can find this one! I'm impressed!

I also made a lovely Italian sausage/spinach/garlic/onion/tomato soup yesterday and enjoyed it immensely!

No vampires around me--no werewolves, either! ;)

Willie Nelson got caught with some weed (maryjuana) on his bus. He told the media "I'm glad it was weed and not spinach, I'd be dead by now".
