Clancy wrote: Ahh, gmc, might be referring to that old,Gerry Rafferty song, "Stuck In The Middle"

Clowns in the numpty house

Jokers to the right...

Here I am stuck in the middle with you

Yes I'm stuck in the middle with you :guitarist

Rafferty might well have sang it that way when he played the old Glasgow Apollo theatre. (Rafferty used to be in a band called The Humblebums, which used to include, Billy Connelly) gmc could well have been in the audience, along with a crew from Burns Howff....a well known, pre theatre, drinking den

I'm sure you remember that song, they used it as a backdrop in Reservoir Dogs, when Michael Madson was altering someone's hearing capabilities

As to why, gmc throws these couplets around, willy nilly, it's for pure devilment. He's an educated man, but probably only twice removed from Govan shipyard riveter, but this is all conjecture on my part, no doubt, gmc himself might appear when ready, and call me a tadger.

....and before you ask, a tadger is a drill used for shotholes, and holes for roof bolts, but it's used here as a sexual connotation, but if he's feeling charitable (highly unlikely) ....he might just say, Away n' bile yer heid. :)

.

I did indeed see them in their hey day and Billy Connolly before he became a latter day renaissance man out to educate his less able brethern and the crucifixion sketch had the church spluttering with indignation and the rest of the nation in stitches.

"We are the christians

We hate the romans "

While Rab C nesbett may be a cultural icon and a genuine working class hero I am not from his part of the world coming from the more civilized east coast that part that once held the capital and thrived in glorious isolation but is now polluted by the influx of people ecaping edinburgh, yes i'm a fifer.

I would not call you a tadger or tell you to go and bile yer heid or even to go and pound your pudding up a close for I am not by nature so crass and vulgar although no doubt such vulgarity would no doubt get past the naughty word detector of the forum.

I hear gordon brown is going to edinburg to tell them all what being british means. It's not likely to happen but maybe we should remind him one british characteristic is the ability to tell our politicians to go-sorry I was about to be crass and vulgar again.

A numpty is a stupid person, the numpty house is the scottish parliament. A phrase I heard coined by Margo MacDonald an outspoken critic of the 420 million building right from the word go. The numpties are the pathetic pillocks we were daft enough to elect.

It does seem a somewhat redundant thing to do.

Of course, the thing is now they can't blame westminster for every stupid thing they do. I'm being quite nice to them. All politicians should be insulted and called to account on a regular basis just to remin=d them they do not have an automatic roght to be where they are.

Who knows, maybe at the next election his constuents might elect a socialist again.

I wish I had the lyrics to the 'jobby wheecker' story! All I can remember is "munchity crunchity" (and now I am laughing again )

They have brought out a CD of his first album, worth getting if you see it. If I knew how I would e-mail you the file. I can download it but the file is too big to e-mail I think. How about the bit about throwing the cushions at the mountain or lcrash landing in the puddle.

MOTTO TO LIVE BY:

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming.
