Your joining in is wonderful, Portia. I wonder whether you're the only one to have watched a while before speaking? I still haven't passed the point of shuddering slightly whenever I reach for the Send button, it's a barrier that starts out very high.

Hi Portia and welcome to Forum Garden. It's a great place with lots of fine people. I'm in Australia, so Fall is what we're not in. :D In fact, spring is sprung here. And loads of little tweety birdies - ok they're large raucously cacophonous sulphur crested cockatoos - are doing a fly by as I write. Wander over to Bothwell's pub later and I'll line you up a cold tinnie (beer).

Sadly, Dickens didn't name any of his characters Portia. If you'd registered as Betsy Trotwood I could be more obliging.

Portia wrote: how about mrs. micawber? don't you remember portia from rumpole of the bailey? You could be Mrs. Micawber if you like, but it's a hard act. The other was Phyllida by rights, Rumpole just had a sense of humour. I don't think Shakepeare had a Phyllida.... he presented me to Mrs. Micawber, a thin and faded lady, not at all young, who was sitting in the parlour (the first floor was altogether unfurnished, and the blinds were kept down to delude the neighbours), with a baby at her breast. This baby was one of twins; and I may remark here that I hardly ever, in all my experience of the family, saw both the twins detached from Mrs. Micawber at the same time. One of them was always taking refreshment.I'd not go there if I were you!

Phyllida Erskine Brown(?sp) aka Patricia Hodge ... Just found a pic. Born in 1946, she's 60 - was of course younger in the Rumpole series but still not half bad.

Hello, Portia, and welcome. This is definatly an interesting place, crazy but interesting. Sometimes I think that song "I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts" suits this place well.

Well I was here first, Portia, me dear, and no matter how big and tough and fast and sexy you are, just remember I'm bigger, tougher, faster and sexier and of course you're right, we must be on different continents if your'e in the fall and I'm in spring (bloody freezing here this morning, snow in the hills but I digress) - so I'll just give you a flower... :yh_flower

And G'day Guppy - welcome to the Garden - here's a flower for you too. :yh_flower

I withdraw the flower... Mmmmm... I think I'm already lined up for a Dueling Fonts session with DaBunnyWendy - I'm not sure whether I can win that one. She's good and has had vast amounts of experience... But then I fight very durrrrty. Jelly wrassling is a bit old hat. Maybe tomato ketchup bottles at twenty paces - you and me. (And someone to run the book of course.. I'd hate to corrupt a newbie, but if you don't mind hamming it up a bit to give the punters a jolly good, edge of the seat type experience, it could turn into a neat little earner, and we can split the proceeds... I'll be generous and give you 40%.. after expenses!!! I'm just an allround good gal.. :sneaky: )

OOOOH !!!!! I wonder if they have heating in Bothwell's Pub?? I'm only getting my gear off if I don't go blue in places that should be um pink OK?!!

Yeah - why not. We can charge a goodish entry fee too, and with the book takings, we'll clean up! A grudge match !!! I might hafta start being mean to you now, just to get in character, set the mood... (but you know it's just theatre)

Wicked wicked mega sneaky :D

Well I think I might love you too, but we're not getting up to any of that sorta wrasslin - without we REALLY REALLY charge the punters. GUFFAW... OOOPs.. I'll be chucked in the compost heap at this rate. You've only just arrived, so probably havent heard of that outer darkness yet - it's where naughty gardeners get sent to cool their heels, and there is wailing and gnashing of teeth.

So I'm gonna pretend to be mean. And if you've got a problem with that, Sister, I'll clobber you with my trusty boomerang - or sic my ostrich/emu/emitch on you. Capeesh?!

Naked mud wrassling has gotta mean we let it ALL hang out, Portia. Charging? - reckon $500 a table - and this will include champagne and a chance to take the winner (or for a bit extra, both of us) out to a romantic, candle lit supper after.
