Thought I would share a story about Trixie
Hi. Thought I would share a story about Trixie, my chinchilla. We have chin-proofed the back bedroom in our house, as a running around space for her. Have it set up so she can run and jump and get some exercise, as well as have a couple of safe hiding spaces. It is chin proofed as anything she can chew on, or get hurt with are removed from the room or hidden. Her favorite spot to light is on the windowsill..to look outside. Especially lately as I have been opening the window. She is very curious, as is the nature of chins..and if there are new sights or noises, she is right up there to look. Last evening there was a fine rainfall. She hopped up and pressed herself right against the screen. She was not sure about the sound she was hearing..or the feel of the mist on her. I have a small pet carrier (the type one would get for a cat or small dog) and when she is ready to go back to her cage by running over to her carrier and hopping inside.:p She sure is fun, and we really enjoy interacting with her. A funny thing though..on the inside of the door to the bedroom is a mirror. It took her a long while to figure out she could not go through it..or that there was not another chinchilla there. She would run over and jump at the mirror..apparently trying to get through. She has never hurt herself, and on occasion if she is really excited about being out, she will litterally run and bounce off all the walls. Think of the move a swimmer makes when bearing off the side of the pool with the feet. Same type move with Trixie.:-4

That sounds great!! The only thing I would caution is make sure those
screens are SECURE.
My husband's cat popped one out one time (from a second story window)
and rode it to the ground!

Oh, Trixie sounds like so much fun!
Some animals have problems with mirrors and understanding it isn't another critter looking back at them. Just turn the mirror around if you worry she might bump into it too much-it might hype her more then she usually is!

I am bumping this thread to tell another Trixie story. Again, remember that chins are nocturnal...and most mornings, when we are getting ready for work, she is already bedded down, inside her little wooden "house". her house is a square box thing..with a "cut out" door, an entry hole on the side, and another entry circle on the top.
This morning, I was in the living room, Rick was in the bathroom, door open, finishing getting dressed. We were talking in louder than usual voices, due to the space between us.
All of a sudden, just Trixie's head appears popped up through the top hole of the house..and she just glares at me..as if to say "Hey...I'm trying to sleep here." Then the head goes back down as quick as it came up.

An interesting thing...that I forgot to mention in yesterday's post.
She also likes to hop up onto my shoulder and chew on my glasses. you can actually see the chew marks on my frame.
