Will Criss still get the cards that people have sent to the hospital AFTER she's discharged ? Sent mine air Mail, but it's bound to take a few days .

Hi Bez :-6

As long as you used Criss' married last name (as opposed to Decamp, her single name), the cards should be forwarded to mamarider's home.

Hey Gang :-6

Would it be better to postpone the trip to a weekend where Pinky and Criss can actually spend time together?

Most airlines charge only a nominal fee to reschedule a flight, as long as it is done within one year of the original date.

What do you guys think?

Agreed, Criss should be kept there in the hospital. It may be based on those dam*d Insurance companies, looking to save a buck. Guess it must be "cheaper" to be at a rehab facility, then in the hospital? :guitarist

That sounds about right Cars...hopefully they will reconsider and keep her wherever is BEST for her and her recovery.

Maybe the hospital can do no more for her. We can take that as GOOD news -- that she is getting better and needs a different type of care -- like rehabilitation.

If she's leaving the hospital soon, I think that is a cause for CELEBRATION!

I guess you're right Cher....just a big scary step under the circumstances.

My sister had a double mastectomy in SanDiego and was sent home within 24 hours.....I was really scared for her, but she was just fine, so i guess the professionals know best.

Folks, oftentimes with patient care it is BETTER to get the patient out

if possible. Now, I realize what insurance companies do, of course. But

we also have to consider the MENTAL aspect, like I said before.

Depending on where Criss goes, it will likely be MUCH better surroundings

and make for a brighter outlook. For HER.

I think we have to try and trust her doctors. And believe that they

wouldn't release her before she was ready.

BEAMS!!

I agree the trip should wait but Pinky I know how much you were looking forward to it, dear.

When you go later you will have a greater chance that she will actually remember seeing you and talking to you and that's what both of you want.

How utterly precious everyone has been to her and actually to each other in here. I am amazed and proud of you all and proud to be a small part of this space.

I hope rehab won't be too hard on her but she'll be plenty stove up and will be in even greater pain but on the fast track to recovery

Again, I am wishing her and her family all the best for a quick and speedy recovery

Big Kisses!

If BR is able to be dischaged from an Acute Care Hospital it would be the best move for her. If it is a discharge to a REHAB facility that is the best of all situations for her recovery, they work miracles in PHYCICAL REHAB facilities.

Yes insurance can get pushy and often times they do, and patients end up back in the Main Hospital. I don't get that feeling with Criss care, or her physicians, they will not move her unless it is in her best interest at this point. Believe me all she will progress just fine out of the Acute Care Hospital it will be a boost to her spirits for sure.. (what about the ass that did this to her where is his insurance company in this??)

Pinky your a dear I hope the date can be pushed back a bit so you can actually have some time with BR on the visit she will love that..:-4

I made Attorney Bob (that's my husband) send some information to Floppy to pass on to mamarider and sisterider. He noted the critical things they need to do to ensure that BR's :-4 BEST INTERESTS are protected legally.

Updates: Criss is not getting out of the hospital as soon as we had thought last night. The possibility existed last night that she would get out today, but we now have an outside case manager (not the one employed by the hospital) who has said that it's much too soon, and things are not prepared for her. We had also, in the last couple of days, been given the impression that she was not going to go to an interim facility, because she "didn't meet the criteria." Well, our case manager says that's not true - she does meet criteria for inpatient rehabilitative care in a facility other than the hospital, so that possibility is being investigated.

Also, we're not prepared to have her home yet. There is much that needs to be done, and much information that we need to have before that can happen.

Pinky, you dear sweet person you, thank you. I never for a minute thought that you were being selfish or inconsiderate. Not even a little bit. I feel so good, and so bad, all at once - good that this wonderful community is coming together the way you are, and bad that I have to put the brakes on something that's so kind and generous. I truly hope that no one is seriously inconvenienced by this, but I think that the mid-October target date would be so much better for all concerned. At this point, we don't even know where she is going to be this weekend. The way things are going, I would be very surprised if she were either at home or in the hospital on Saturday - I really think she will be in the rehab center, and I have no idea what the visitor policy will be at that location.

We also have MADD involved; they are going to be at the first hearing for this miserable excuse for a bog toad that caused all this heartache.

She was much less coherent today than she was yesterday. They changed her medication and I think that's really affecting her. It throws her for such a loop that it's hard to get her to do anything after she has taken it.

I wish I could hug you all, I really do. Even Nomad.

And we all wish we could hug you and all the 'rider ' family and makes things better for you....take some of the pressure off...It's frustrating being thousands of miles away, but we can but send our love, prayers , positive vibes and lend our support from where we are.

We are so grateful for all the updates....being in the dark would be awful, at least we feel we are sharing the trauma in some miniscule way.

Big 'cyber' hugs Dawn and much love to you all..

Ditto to everything Bez said!

Don't feel bad Dawn, we all know what its like when you don't know if you're coming or going and the world becomes crazy around you.

Criss would be better out of the hospital if she can manage it. Even at night hospitals are bright and noisy and

busy-busy and she needs dimmed lights and peace and quiet to rest and recuperate in.

Poor MamaRider will need to take a little time out to sort a room out for Criss which is away from the road, peaceful, close to the bathroom and familiar to Criss, but poor MamaRider has barely left the hospital by the sound of it, so its understandable that they're all at sixes and sevens, especially when one doctor tells you one thing and another doctor tells you something else! As they do! :o

Huge hugs to all of you, we're all here for you if you need us! :yh_hugs :yh_hugs

Oh boy Erinna1112 your asking for it now..:-2 Thank you for the update, you all are doing wonderful under the circumstances. I'm so glad to here you have and outside case manager that is the best way to go at this point. Most Acute Care facilitys have Ombudsmen there as well to serve your needs, as well as financial people that can step in and take the reins, and worry from you. Just inquire and believe me they are there. Don't feel the pressure of trying to do it all yourself. My sister is a Patient Care advocate her in at Sharp Hospital in San Diego so if there are any question please let me know I will ask her. ;)

It sounds like BR will get the best care, and in a REHAB facility is where they will begin her instense REHAB.

Spot and dear Flops are making other arrangements for me though, so I won't cause any hassle to anyone.

I have been informed that it won't be a prob to send me back over later when Criss is feeling a bit more up to things, which is wonderful!

Even if I get to see her for ten minutes, it will be fantastic. Just to be able to give her a hug. However if she isn't up to it, then I more than understand, but as it's already arranged, I might as well go.

I am sending a trillion hugs and thoughtwaves to all of you!!! Criss, Erinna, the whole Rider family, Pinky, Floppy, Carla, Bez... Spot. What an amazing lot. With so many healing beams and prayers surrounding her, the loving help from family and friends, the medical teams and her own fine fighting spirit, Criss will hopefully make a good and speedy recovery!!

Erinna - what a good person you are!!! I'm full of admiration. (What did Nomie do??? This time?? )

Pinky - have your trip. Go with the flow. I'll help with the October Mark 2 mission. Grin. Hey, who knows, down the track some, even an Aussie might venture thataway. Michigan is a great place, even if the State bird is the mosquito. (You notice these things when camping out... grin).

Wednesday Update:

She had an off-site (out of the hospital) opthalmologist visit today. He was cautiously hopeful...he did say that there is nerve damage, but the detached retina that he had previously diagnosed turned out not to be the case, after today's more sophisticated tests. This is why she had to go to his office instead of him seeing her in the hospital as he had been doing - the machines and stuff that he tested her with aren't portable, so she had to go where they are.

She had a couple of CT scans yesterday - the second showed improvement over the first.

And...big news...drumroll please...she will be leaving the hospital tomorrow sometime, probably late in the morning. She will be going to a rehabilitation facility - thank GODS. This facility is apparently one of the best in the country with this kind of injury, and we have been told repeatedly that it's simply a miracle that they had space at this particular moment. If anyone wants to check it out, the website is www.RIMrehab.org. I'm not sure if that'll make a link when I post the message or not, but if not, it's the address.

We have NO idea at this point what her schedule is. We do not know when her various therapies will be, so we have absolutely no clue as to how visitation is going to work. Updates will come as to that.

Cards and letters have been simply FLOODING in. She must have thirty cards in various spots around her room right now, and they're all wonderful. We're reading them to her, one or two at a time (she tires very quickly), but saving every single one. We have received a couple from overseas, too...such pretty stamps!

Pinky, your package arrived. Also, a package arrived at Mamarider's, from Bloomingdales. I'm not sure who sent that, but thank you so much. :)

Big doings tomorrow. My son has a doctor appointment in the mid-afternoon, but I'm sure I'll have an update after I get home from that, because I will be at the hospital first thing in the morning.

Thanks for all the encouragement, folks. You really are helping. Please keep it coming.

I had a temporary office in our facility here and I can tell you I saw miracles happen every day of the week. She is so lucky to get in this quick, her angels are watching over her. She will have a tough road ahead but RMI Rehab is the best, so relax she is in the best place she could be.:-4
