My new vox amp just died!

Post by Galbally »

For any of the other musicians out there, I just bought a Vox AD50VT, I don't have the cash for a AC30 or anything and I need something versatile so it was an adequate compromise for the time being.

Well it was fine for about 30 mins out of the box and then it just went hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, and hasn't stopped, its going back tomorrow, I'm very disillusioned. I've always been into Vox amps and this one has gone wrong immeadiately. Suppose thats what I get for buying one of these fancy new amps. Oh well. Anyone had any similar experiences?

Nah, didn't do nothing. Hadn't even got the replica stonehenge delievered or the dancing knomes or nothing.

I think I am unluck with amps, I had this great Fender princeton, but it was nuts..... seriously, I never had it louder than about 4 (really I'm not joking people always brag about how loud their amps are but this was only a little 50 watt it was embarressing). If I turned it above 2 it drowned out everything else including a 5K PA system. I think it was defective or it was possessed by the spirit of some rock guy who sold his soul to santa.

Well the update is I went back to the shop and got a new one straight away so thats pleasing. I'm glad to be able to say that this amp works perfectly and is a really good little amp for not a lot of euro's! Unfortunatly though it does not come compete with inflatable devil, or insanity button (which I think all amps should have).

My first amp was a Vox Kensington bass amp (about 35 years ago). It was the bottom-of-the-line, and probably had only one 12 or 15 inch speaker. All solid state- the electronic guts inside were about the size of a desktop calculator. It sounded pretty decent at 5 or below.

You wouldn't believe, I sold it to this guy who played electric bass in our high school marching band (it was the 1970's- go figure). He wore the uniform and everything and marched with his bass, plugged in by a long, curly cord, and played through that little Kensington, which was stationed closer to the stands- but how it could be heard over a marching band, don't ask me. I never went to any games anyway. Tethered as he was, I imagine he had to break ranks with the others when they marched farther afield.

I never actually saw this but I know it happened from hearsay and pictures in our school annual. I guess some people have an unusually high threshold for embarrassment.

We had an eletric Bass player in our band too! He didn't march though, he played from the side line (we also had tympani and chimes set up there as well). I thought we were kind of cool, I graduated in '89 by the way. Neato! :p

Yes, Cat- I admit an electric bass is more cool than a tuba. I guess I was being a little posessive.

There have been several of them where the transformers are delaminating.

It was not the fault of Vox.

I used to have a kensington too, back in the late 70's

But my all time fav bass rig was my Acoustic 370b, that someon picked up at midnight music supply, when I was away from home.
