WTF is going on in the world??!!!! :-5
A 12 year old boy is sitting in jail right now in San Luis Obispo, CA, for beating an 80-something year old man to death with his skate board!!!! I have just seen a brief news story on this and I'm sitting here with my chin in my lap. This kid beat this old man to death and then, with a buddy, stole the mans car. Someone please explain to me what is happening when 12 year olds are committing murder. I just don't understand... :yh_ooooo

I think if you look at the parents, you would get a pretty clear understanding of why.
In addition, due to the seriousness of this crime, I would bet dollars to donuts that this is a lost kid - someone who will spend the rest of his life committing crime and spending his life in jail.

I have no idea if the child was on medication that could have altered behavior or has a behavioral or psychological disorder. Since he is a child, I do believe there is hope in rehabilitation. I do hope the courts do see that he is a child who needs help and will make sure that he receives the help. Thankfully the Supreme Court stopped the death penalty from being levied against children. But I also hope this child is treated as a child crying for help, rather than as an adult, unable to be changed.

I just saw the very brief news report on my local noon news, so it probably happened very recently. I will poke around and see if I can find a link for the entire story.
I certainly don't think the death penalty is appropriate at 12, but geez...it is such a mind numbing story. It's just beyond what I can wrap my brain around. This kid is 3 years younger than my son. Just gives me the creeps.

I do agree, it is a very, very disturbing story. Things like this makes me feel like the kids either had little guidance in his homelife, or has some sort of psychiatric problem. Either way, since he is so young, there is hope for the possibility of reform. It'll be interesting to see his trial and to find out what argument the defense uses.
My son is twelve. I would freaking die if this happened or would want to.

Thanks for the link, StelZ. A pretty damning article. And a depressing one, too.

I agree with Beth....I think at his age there is hope for rehabilitation....however I still mean what I said and that is "Just let him sit!" For awhile that is--scare the CRAP out of him!
