I think I've been bit

Post by Accountable »

I woke up yesterday morning and noticed my elbow was swollen and a bit tender at one point. I didn't think much of it and went to work.

As the day progressed, the elbow got bigger but didn't hurt. Then around 11:30 I started feeling light-headed and feverish, but kept working. Several people had ideas, the most common was a bug or spider bite.

When I got home, I took 2 Benedril which knocked me out for an hour. This morning, my elbow looks like Jimmy Durante's nose. I can't completely straighten my arm because of the pain.

I have a doctor appt at 9:40. I'll let you know.

It sounds like a spider bite acc. Do I really know ? No of course not. Im not sure why I even said that having virtually no knowledge about spiders or bites, hell I feel lucky if I can tie my shoelaces without falling over. Im going now.

Thanks guys. We do have brown recluse down here, as well as black widows. I always though spider venom worked faster than that, though.

But then, what else could it be? I would have had to smack the hell out of my elbow to make it swell that much, if it was only trauma. I'm pretty sure I'd remember hitting it that hard.

Sounds like a spider to me, too! But you're doing the right thing to have it checked...besides....you might be able to get out of doing tasks you don't like! Think of it as a positive! ;) (Work it, work it, work it.......)

You know, it might be cellulitis. That hurts and swells like crazy. The elbow would be a spot that it would go for too.

I'd rather go to work than be bit by a spider. It makes you too sick and too sleepy to care. You could have sent naked hunks to me and I'd have told them to come back when I was better because I was just too tired.:sneaky:

Ok sooo what is the verdict, I certainly hope it's not the A word... Amputation... eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek

Never mind I joke.

Acc I hope it's nothing serious, if this ends up a result of a sting please please be careful because that is a nasty reaction and the next one and next one will be worse as that is an allergic reaction.

If it is a spider bite keep a close eye on it, Dr.'s will perscribe meds etc but it's up to you to watch that is does not get worse we all have seen those horrific pictures of the damage a spider bite can do.

Good luck mate.

It appears to be a spider. I'm completely out of energy, and for someone that has a rep for being high-pace and nonstop, it's a real downer. I'd much rather be working, like Peg.

Antibiotics for 10 days, no heavy lifting (I have a garage full of lumber I can't touch!:( ), and hot compresses on the swollen area. It's huge now, and I can hardly move it. I go back Friday morning for a followup.

Until you go through it yourself, you cannot imagine how sick one little spider can make you. PLEASE Acc, if you start feeling worse, go to the emergency room. Don't miss one dose of your antibiotics. Go and buy balloons and fill them with hot water. The heat lasts longer and the more you use it, the quicker it'll work. I feel for you.

Oh Acc my friend

Rest well

And get well :-4

If I was there, I'd make you a hot cup of tea, make sure you had easy access to the remote control, fluff your pillows, scratch your back . . . and generally nurture you until you were all better . . .

Feeling pretty good, though the swelling hasn't gone down much and it's bright red. The doctor stressed several times how important the moist heat was and to be "diligent"with it (that's the word she used).

I'll try the balloons at work today (can you microwave them?). When they go cold, I'll chuck them at someone. :sneaky:
