Snooze...you are, of course, totally correct! (As usual.) When hundreds of thousands of dogs/cats are euthanized every year, there's no excuse whatsoever for letting pets breed!
Now...having said that....before we all toss stones at the dog mom...she's obviously missing some hormones. Mammals are generally great moms, as long as we've got appropriate hormones and we've received/observed good maternal care.
My daughter had a cat which would feed her kittens but wouldn't do any grooming or (necessary) "butt duty." Her dog took over the kittens and did everything necessary (except feed them.) We always laugh that, somewhere, there are five adult cats who meet a dog and think "MOM!"
