Oh, those old birds-when it storms they come inland, and like to fly right over the teacher's parking lot before landing on the football field. I hate their parting gifts..........

Hiya Hamster...

well, I went to Falmouth this morning to see my mother and the seagulls used my car for target practice! And they are pretty accurate! Dazzling pure white pooh...on a dark blue car. Nice....

I'm glad you said that...I thought it was just my imagination!! In fact, it almost looked quite stunning on the roof of my car.

Hey this could be a whole new thread...the varying qualities of seagull pooh...

Yes, actually, the gulls around here probably aren't squawking mindlessly but precision planning amongst themselves as to the best route to take to reach your car!!

Why do they call 'em "soap operas" when nobody sings?

That's because detergent companies, live Ivory and Procter and Gamble, used to exclusively sponsor these shows.

Everyone is so perfect-looking on these shows that I find it REALLY annoying** -- how 'bout regular-looking folks so we don't have to 'measure up'?

Plus, Minxsy, so many of those photos are heavily airbrushed. NO ONE can really look that perfect.

How have your teenaged girls handled this 'measuring up' thing? When I worked for a nutritionist years ago, I cannot tell you *how many* teenage girls came in with severe eating disorders.

What do you think contributes to that? :(

Somewhere I read that one reason women like to watch "soaps" is because men on those programs speak to women the way we WISH they would!

My mother was really into her "stories". One summer a couple on one of her favorite shows was getting married. So, we baked a cake, got all dressed up (Sunday best) and when they got married we threw confetti in the air and ate cake.

I have been blessed with 2 very realistic girls. They are happy with who they are and have never had eating issues that were their faults. My oldest before getting pregnant had all kinds of troubles with her digestive system and nothing was ever solved but now she seems fine. She is tall for a girl and entirely too thin and was often accused of being anorexic, however, this was not the case she simply could not tolerate a lot of foods. She comes from a long line of tall people all the males in her family are over 6' tall. Jr Minks is shorter and more curved and is perfectly happy with herself.

What makes them so, good values, me always ensuring they ate balanced meals, um me being extremely anti superbody, I dunno just giving my girls the realistic approach to life has made them happy with themselves.

Oh they read the magazines and watch the TV but they grew up with the positive enforcement that they were beautiful. As well they were always told they could pretty much experiment with make up, hair and clothes and this maybe kept them from experimenting with their body shapes... does that make sense?

What contributes to "measuring up", every parent and friend that ever uttered to a child.... you are ugly...... your are a failure.....you can't do that.......

You know I always equated raising kids to raising a puppy...always encourage them, always be positive, repeat and reinforce, and never hit them.

Don't get me wrong I never treated my kids like the dog hehehehehe (please nobody report me)

Best soaps are the Spanish novellas. I like them alot, because they have a beginning and an end. There was a really good one about 15 years ago, Dos Mujueres. Ponch from CHIPS starred in it, as the bad guy with 2 women on the line. Novellas have a big closing episode, and all the ladies threw the men out of the house, to drink beer outside and pout while we were partying. Ponch got killed at the end-the dirty rat he was in that novella-and the ladies jumped up and down for joy. Oh, I still remember that soap!

One of our radio stations is a syndicate and in the evenings the DJ is the infamous Alice Cooper, and the other night he was talking about Music Therapy and how good it is... and who all it helps and how etc.

And I guess yes music can be very thought provoking, it can take you up, or let you down, ease your pain or make you wanna dance like a looney.

So I got to thinking how that enters into my life and there are so many songs that have so many different results when I hear them....

"If I Had A Million Dollars", by the Barenaked Ladies gets my mind a singing (badly)

"Boogie Woogie" by Long John Baldry takes me back ages and gets my toes tapping

And a whole lot of others can really make me smile. Many songs take me back to great times and places.....

Minx

Children would be blessed if they were treated as well as my dog :p

I like the way you've instilled self-confidence and self-esteem in your daughters. That is invaluable.

As I said in another thread, everyone needs someone to think that she is FABULOUS :-6
