I hope so! This is a private dentist (bye bye divorce money!) and the care is so much better! I've got a temporary filling at the moment, soon to be removed this afternoon for root treatment :( , the temporary filling looks fantastic so I can only imagine what the real filling is going to look like.

The dentist is lovely, shame his nurse looks down her long pointy nose at you though! :p

I just don't like the injections, my last dentist used to feel like she was actually trying to inject the back of my head rather than the gum, you'd think a female dentist would be more gentle but not that bitch!

Well, If I won the lottery, the first thing I would do is clear off all my families debts, then make sure that the children in the family are set up for the future and then, and only then, spend some money on Carrie-Anne and Archie.

Oh, and make sure ForumGarden.com is secure and sticks around!!:):)

Dear Betty Boop,

You still remind me of the comic cut character.

Thanks for not taking my question too seriously.

Dentists are indeed a rare breed.

After years of not going to one the whole side of a filled tooth broke off so I had to see someone.

The one I had seen and had been a friend to - our daughters were friends at the same boarding school.

He had retired and his practise was taken over by his associates and still used his name.

They refuse to see me because I had not seen them for eighteen months.

I managed to get to see another privately.

It cost me £136.00 to have the broken tooth "recapped" This is how OAP's get deeper into debt. I could not afford it but had plastic and used it. They drilled a hole and put in what an engineer would call a pin but they call a "POST" to glue the cap to.

Within two years the "POST" had broken and the cap was out.

They only cure then was extraction PLUS whatever they thought necessary. Luckily for me a Spanish lady had arrived at the practise and I was put on her list and she literally had the tooth out painlessly before I knew it.

The BOSS had said that a loose tooth at the back of my mouth should come out also but I refused and she said "It is your mouth, your teeth and I do not do anything you do not want done."

That cost me another £120.00 paid for by plastic.

The loose tooth appeared to firm up for a year or so then became loose again so I just pulled it out with a pair of long nosed pliers out of my tool box - cost £ZERO.

I have not been back as I can't stand too many financial shocks.

At sea I have seen teeth pulled out the same way. False teeth repaired with epoxy, super glue, and other compounds including a "Fibreglas" kit.

I read in a story about sailing boats that one sailer carved teeth from "Lignum Vitae" - a very - very - hard wood that will not float. (Usually used as the bearings for stern tubes supporting the propeller shafts.)

It just murders wood working tools - you have sharpen your knives and chisels every fifteen minutes or so.

As he lost each tooth he simply stuck a new wooden tooth in the hole and they apparently lasted him the rest of his life.

We do not seem to have progressed very far methinks.

God bless all.

randall.

Dear Chonsgirl.,

Needs must girl, needs must. I was hanged if I was going to fork out another fortune just to have someone pull out a tooth that was already wanting to depart from my body.

Actually, the pain threshold in everyone is very different.

Not once have I had to have an injection of local anaesthetic to get a filling done.

My old dentist used to bring his partners in to watch me getting my teeth filled without anaesthetic.

As an asthmatic child when there were not anti-asthmatic drugs. In the a big attack the last resort - in fact the only drug the doctor had - was andrenaline.

I can remember panting away with two inch breaths going in an out watching in relived fascination the doctor come to the house and open his little, usually very old, brown leather bag.

Then he would take out a small nickel plated metal box and when he removed it there was a metal and glass syringe and needles nestling side by side. in velvet lining.

No plastic in those days.

He would then use a small bottle of methylated spirits to "sterilise" them. Take out a small bottle of adrenaline and then fill the syringe through the rubber covered neck of the bottle.

I would watch in fascination totally relieved at last to know that within a matter of two or three minutes my asthmatic attack would be over.

And I was GLAD to have that needle stuck into me. On one occasion, whilst in the doctor's surgery, the telephone rang as he was injecting me and he asked me to hold the syringe steady with my other hand whilst he answered the telephone.

Why do telephones always get priority.????

So I grew up liking doctors, liking their needles and things because unlike ordinary children I was never out of their hands and looked on them as my best friends.

After the injection my heart would literally thump like a hammer for several minutes but at least I was breathing freely.

My present doctor - all of my doctors have been or are asthmatics - always says he thanks GOD that he never has had to get an adrenaline injection.

He doesn't know what he's been missing all those years.

What a high!

God bless you all.

Oh Randall, your story of the asthma attacks reminded me of my #2 son. He has asthma, and as a little boy the only time he would ask to go to the doctor was for the shot to stop an attack. Aw, hugs to you for that experience!

Heeeee. Love it. Father of yer feet. Truly its a name of a kind of candy. Combo of a lollipop and a bit of tootsie roll chocolate candy in the center hence tootsie pop. Kids love them. Well I guess big kids too.

Hi randall !! I can sympathise on the asthma !!! There's a lot of it around. I remember the ephedrine tablets which made me shake but made me breathe again too. Thank heavens for ventolin puffers nowadays. And steroids too. I'm pretty good now, and my son seems to have grown out of the worst of his attakcs too.. thank God.

Okie - thanks. I thought tootsie pops were probably some kind of candy ice. Grin. I'll hafta try one next time I'm over the Pond. Acc - I pale a little before your explanation. Sounds like it would require the kind of yoga that would make sunny and moi even sorer. Grin.
