Lets hope he is sincere and can get back on track I really like the guy a good actor.. :-4
MALIBU, Calif. — Mel Gibson issued a lengthy statement Saturday apologizing for his drunk driving arrest and saying he has battled alcoholism throughout his life.

Gibson also apologized for what he said were "despicable" statements he made to the deputies who arrested him early Friday morning on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu.

"I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested," he said in a statement issued by his publicist. "I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry. I have battled with the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse."
ALOHA!!

MOTTO TO LIVE BY:

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming.

Sounds like your garden-variety drunk's battle cry. All the right words, none of the right remorse. I smell bullsh!t.

I'm going on nothing more than my gut, Nomad. No sound reason for it, just my gut which is pretty accurate. I'd love to be wrong in this case.

Id prefer to assume hes genuine. Do people bullshit ? Of course, but if it happened to you would you feel remorse ? I think you would. I would and what he said would mirror something I would say. To me it sounded very real. People have lapses and they do stupid things but we also are capable of reflection.

I totally agree.

A lot of people think what they say while under the influence, is excusable. My boss is one of those people you could knock him out and he'd say, "but you were drunk so it doesn't count". Drunk or sober, you are responsible for your words as well as your actions in my opinion. The "I own Malibu" part really turned my stomach. The pompass ass.:-5

I believe Mel Gibson has been and currently is anti-Semitic.

This incident corroborates other stories I have heard about his intense dislike and lack of respect for the Jewish people

In my opinion, he can go phuck himself.

I think part of the problem, Sweet Pea, is that we hear it soooo many times

from soooo many people, they apologize for whatever and the tendency

is (for me, anyway) to say I've heard it all before.

So even if one person in 20 really MEANS it, it can get lost.

Plus I think, in this particular case, having a Holocaust denier (that

word looks funny, it means something else to me!!) has got to mean

he spent an entire childhood maybe learning hate? Why else would

he come off against Jews of all people just when drunk? Alcohol

releases your inhibitions, and when "sober" he might know better than

to say that in public, all of his controls are OFF at .12!!

Gibson is a fine actor imo, but he's also an imperfect human. We don't know if it's alcoholism, or stress, or just plain bad judgement. And, he's entitled to his opinions as we all are. There's plenty of mean drunks with loud opinions out there. He just happened to be one of them last night, and he got busted.

I don't feel he's above the law though, and the facts point to him speeding, and being a mean drunk. I'm glad they threw him in the drunk tank. He needed to be there with the rest of the drunk drivers. AND, imo he should also have to go to Drunk School, just like anyone else. Celebrity or not, he blew it and should be treated just like all the other's who blow it.

Is there a case for treating "celebrities", who set an example that many follow,

differently from others? Should penalties be harsher for them, I wonder?

I am kind of disgusted by the whole thing.

A man got caught drinking and speeding. When he was arrested, he yelled, cursed and was basically a bit belligerent.

It happens on the show Cops all of the time. Big Deal.

The press are the ones that made such a big deal out of it. If they had kept their noses out, then we would all know that Mel had been arrested for drinking and driving.

Will this hurt Mel's career? I doubt it. After all, Tom Cruise was on T.V. when he was spouting off his believes on psychiatry and post partum depression and it didn't seem to hurt his career at all.

War Of The Worlds and Mission Impossible III tanked. ABC just cancelled their upcoming project with Gibson.

Mel, Tom, and Jacko are in Fatty Arbuckle territory.

His biggest problem now is that a large portion of film money is Jewish.

What was his last movie?

If he doesn't, I'm sure he's got a million or two to live on. A lot of children to feed though.

Funny, he mostly kept out of the media before. Was presented as the reclusive happily married father of many who lived on a ranch away from the Hollywood crowd. Having known some stars, I have trouble feeling sorry for them. He makes a few million and pays the price. Publicity. We've all said things we regret. Mostly no one remembers, unless you're famous.

I believe it was "The Passion of the Christ".

Which he produced completely with his own money, I believe.

And it grossed over 300 million at the box office, didn't it?

Please don't make me tell Mr. Gibson he can phuck off for the 3rd time in this thread.

Not really.

It's been known for awhile that he is a big drinker and was a philanderer.

You know the good 'Christian values" he says he has.

Guess that doesn't mean he can't screw around on his wife, though, does it?

By the way, if anyone thinks I have a hair across my ass in this thread, you bet I do! :guitarist

I allways find it facinating to "Look beyond" the face of the person I am looking at, especially when it comes to film stars. I like to imagine: What are they really like in real life?

I suppose Thats why I like reading biographies so much and personal history.

This particular case does go to show that what you perceive to be the person, is very different from who they actually are: I bet a lot of people took Mel Gibson to be a natural extension of the characters he played.

Being Drunk is no excuse for Gibson's anti-Semitism remarks. Being Drunk, Gibson most definately was not to drive but did, but then it seems his true feelings on anti-Semitism spewed out!

Obviously, he put many of those anti-Semitism feelings in his movie the Passion!

Gibson has crashed & burned! Stick a fork in him & turn him over, he's done!:-5

So now it's all been down graded to a "Journey of Understanding". Oh! I'm SO glad they clarified it for me! Is that like a plea bargain??
