Iranians goad US over threat to nuclear facilities

Post by capt_buzzard »

Iran dared America to attack it yesterday as the senior hawks in President G.W's administration all but conceded Washington's dilemma in trying to prevent Teheran acquiring nuclear weapons.

In a rare interview, Vice President Dick Cheney stressed repeatedly that Washington was backing a EU diplomatic initiative to presuade Teheran to freeze permanently its nuclear ambitions even though it is Washington's worst-kept secret that the administration believes the attempt is doomed to fail.

So Iran is standing up saying "We're the ones who had WMD's! We got 'em from iraq, cheap!"

LOL! Dont they know with Bush in office, we'll probably say, "Well shucks! Since we're here already..."

Until Europe gets some resolve, Iran, Korea, and Russia will get worse.

Remember that letting America drain their resources was Chirac's idea for "balancing power" were all still waiting for France, or the UN, or the EU to project some of that "power" to help back off the bad guys. :(

Relations between America and much of Europe have been stormy to say the least since the American-led invasion of Iraq. There have been particularly heated exchanes between Washington on the one hand, and Paris and Berlin on the other.

President Bush's visit to Europe this week was intended in large part to mend fences and it went some way towards achieving this although tensions remain and could easily reerupt. In a way, this week was a case of 'back to the future'.

Old allies are trying to bury the hatchet and old rivals are brandishing them once more.

The most frosty meeting of the week took place between President Bush and Russia's President Putin. The reality is that Washington and Moscow are snarling at one another again.

Washington is especially unhappy at Russia for selling weapons to Syria and nuclear fuel to Iran. So are we in a new Cold War?

There is fear of a new Iron Curtain rising.
