We all like to look sun tanned and bronzed but how do you achieve that bronzed buffed look without baking in the sun for hours on end (and risking skin cancer). I use fake tan because if i so much as look at the sun i come out in 3rd degree burns ( i used to have a sunbed but gave it away after all the cancer hype) even on holiday i try to avoid the the sun but i still like to look tanned so i fake it and i wondered if anyone else had the same problem .:)

I use Jergens natural glow (for medium skin tones)

on my body and Jergens natural glow FACE (designed for fair skin tones) on my face. I've been getting compliments for weeks on my great tan. Not orange at all.

I go to the tanning salon once a week, but most of mine is from being outdoors alot. I take my walk everyday, winter and summer. But I sure do enjoy it in the summer more.:-6

Tanning salons will give you the tan without the UV, in the good booths. Less then 2%. That's better then you get outside!

As do I. But I'm not proud of it.

I've cut down a lot and probably now go three times per month. I just like being

"nonwhite", not really tanned. And I don't lie in the sun anymore because it bores the hell out of me. It's hard for me to lay still!

When I have time, energy and money I go to the tanning salon. Or just take a long ride on the scoot. 'Course, the scoot only allows for tanning the arms and face, as I refuse to wear shorts on the bike no matter how hot it is. (That's just asking for trouble.) So, even though I have the time, I haven't had the energy or the $$$ to fake-bake. It used to be one of my favorite relaxation treats. But, I like to go for quality, and the packages are just more than I'm willing to part with right now.

Laying out? No thanks...I get bored within 5 minutes. And I don't like being leered at by my neighbors.

I started going to the tanning salon when I moved East, aftern having always lived in the West where the sun was more intense, and I found winters were difficult for me here. My first winter was very depressing, not being able to go outside and being cold all the time. There are studies that show getting that little bit of indoor tanning and UV is very therapuetic. And it is for me.

That little bit of indoor sunshine perks me up at the end of the week during the long winters, I always go on Friday at the end of the school week. That is my one pamper thing I do for myself, since I don't get my hair done or have manicured nails (musicians can't do that very well!) or any other girlie things. Hey, I'm waiting to hear AC's comments now, I mentioned girle stuff!:)

I really wish you guys wouldnt go to tanning salons. If you absolutley have to, please check your moles regularly. Even small dark ones can lead to HUGE problems. I am very "pasty" and I embrace it. Please get any moles you have removed. This is a silent killer. I cant stress that enough.

Noooo you can't say that... you can't have people getting rid of every mole, you have to watch your moles, watch for the shape changeing, if they start to get raggedy around the edges, swell up, get crusty, have any discharge, hurt, itch etc then go have them looked at immediately. But always be aware of them. During your regular check-up a good dr will take a look at your more obvious moles and should advise you on what to watch and even which ones to watch.

I stress not every mole is a bad mole.

My tan is au-naturalle... but I come from a culture of moles and easily tannable skin, (my hungarian background) But even if we tan easily, we still have to know our limits. I have burnt my shoulders before and have noticed now when I go out in the sun, more freckles pop up on them than when I was younger. Believe me I am constantly watching them and the moles.

Just the ones you have listed plus any that ARE dark. Minks, my mother is a Dermatologist. I have had all my moles that turn dark removed and they have ALL been atypical.

edited to add: atypical meaning the sun has changed the cells of the mole and it can and will become cancerous.

Are you concerned about wrinkles or acne or anything specific?

Well, I know I'm more wrinkled that I should be with all of my sun exposure.

I've heard that Cetaphyl, which you can get at a drugstore, is one of the best and most gentle cleansers around.

I hate to spend lots of $$ for skin care; I think sometimes these companies

'create' a need where one doesn't truly exist.

DG if I had all my moles removed I would be worse off than swiss cheese, my Dr and I watch them closely, my father, my mother, brother, oldest daughter all have been taught what to look for, and all watch our moles very closely.

That is a good one. My mom sends me samples of that. Also if you want to go a little farther, try retin-A or differen gel (these are prescription only) but you CANNOT go out in the sun with them on your face.

But she says wash two to three times a day, and for wrinkles dont go in the sun or smoke. Those are the biggest causes of wrinkles.

Okay. All I am saying is if a mole gets dark I have it removed. I think that is a safe practice. The doctor (Dr. Brody) I see ( www.atlantadermatology.com )who concurs with my mother, has some very impressive credentials so I think I will stick with his advice.

At least you watch them. There are 3 women in my office who have skin like leather and their moles are big and dark and keep growing and they dont give a crap. Some of them are purple and crusty (the worse kind) and they still sit there and say "but I wont be beautiful without leather skin!".

I fake bake. And I only do that every now and then. I used to go tan in tanning beds but I couldn't stand the heat. And I would see all these ladies who tanned year round everyday and their skin looks like leather. So I don't even bother.

I go to the tanning bed twice a week, every other week on average. I started there in hopes it would help my RA. It doesn't, but it relaxes the heck out of me. I work steady dayturn so I don't get much natural sun. I look healthier and need that little bit of solitary time.

I used to work in a tanning salon and used the beds daily. The key is MOISTURIZE!!!! Religiously, every time, your entire body, with a GOOD moisturizer, and especially don't forget your face!!! I tanned till I was as dark as I can get, and I get really dark with my Native blood. I never had a problem because I used a great moisturizer. I'm 35, and I still get carded at most bars. Not a line or wrinkle anywhere, really.

Thanks BR, if I ever decide to try it again I'll remeber that. What's your favorite moisturizer that you use.

The best fake tan stuff I've ever used is called Fake Bake. It's kinda messy but you get a realistic tan fast!. :)

I love Avon's Intensive moisture therapy CREAM. Not the lotion, but the nice thick cream that comes in a jar instead of a pump or squeeze bottle. That stuff is fabulous. And for my face I use Avon Nurtura, and at night before bed I use Avon's Hydrofirming Bio6 Night cream.

You have a nice regime of taking care of your face. I think I am the lazy girl, put some of the Dove daytime cream on the morning, the night time stuff at night, and that's about it. Except on tanning days, I put more.

I spend as little time as possible in front of a mirror...................:)

I don't do either but having lived in states where it's warm/hot year round you always have a bit of color anyway! :-6

I'm 34 and I still get carded everywhere too! :o

I've used Oil of Olay with spf since my early 20's, it works best for me, I've tried other creams but I would notice right away that my skin just wouldn't look as good... :-6

I don't use fake tan and I don't lie around in the sun either. That's so dull! lol! I just tan when I go outside in the sun. I tan fairly easily although I end up with some quality tan lines :wah: !
