Good Grief! The In-Laws Are Finally Coming!

Post by chonsigirl »

After six years of living here in our lovely home, they have decided to visit my husband and me! He has only been home from the hospital for one and a half years! They did visit my husband in the hospital three times-once in ICU when I had them thrown out for being disruptive, and twice when I told them it was serious enough I thought they should come. And I never have heard the end of that yet, for the inconvenience to them it caused.

I call them every week to tell them my husband's condition, since I am the dutiful daughter-in-law, no matter their lack of concern over everything that has happened. Last week my father-in-law had hinted they might come, and would call me, but since he never did I thought I should call them to check. Yeah, he said they would be here at noon tomorrow. Good grief, I think they should have given me a little more then 24 hours notice! The kids are in shock-they are going to have to cleanup the house with me in the morning before they have to go to work, they cannot change their schedules so quickly!

Does anyone else have in-law problems like this?

My mother and father-in-law have both passed away.

My two sisters-in-law are wonderful people and we get on very well.

DON'T THESE IN-LAWS OF YOURS KNOW HOW DAMN LUCKY THEY ARE TO HAVE YOU IN THEIR LIVES??!

Clearly they are dysfunctional people. Most in-laws would feel it was a privilege and an honor to have you in their family.

It's a shame because they don't know what they're missing out on.

And I truly mean it. :-6

Oh, you are all cheering me up about the visit!

They are only 3 hours from me, not that far. I wish that had come more during all this time. They are only coming for the afternoon, and I will tell kitty and bunnies to stay put and be on their best behavior.:)

I'm glad it's only for one afternoon, Chons.

Maybe you should take up drinking -- just for the day!

Chons

Before your husband had his health problems

Were they close to their son?

Not very close, and he has one sister. She has never called. They are just not a close-knit family, which I am used to.

Oh CG I am so sad for you.... that would drive me round the bend. I don't have inlaws anymore but they would never have done that. :(

Don't give up on them, Chonsi.

One of my daughters married a lovely chap but his family were never close. It took about 7yrs for them to be drawn into the family unit but my daughter never gave up. Now his parents send us greetings cards at Christmas, Easter and on special anniversaries and they arrive to visit my daughter and hubby laden with carefully chosen gifts. The thrill for us all is not in getting them to treat us well but in seeing how much fun and enjoyment they are getting out of it.

Things have a habit of getting better, dear chonsi :guitarist

That was nice advice, Niamh-I hope they will warm up to us. We are not so bad!

There are days, my dear Nomad, when California does sound alot nicer.......

I am asking them tomorrow if they will watch my husband so I can go, I think I shall ask them first, they are family-whether they think that way or not. But my grandmother is doing a little better, and got moved to a nursing home yesterday. I still want to go out there, like within a week or less. I think tomorrow is a good day to say-hey, stay for a couple of days. The kids and the cat don't bite! :)

You do that and be firm. Or cry, whatever works. :-4
