I got this idea from Captain ray's Space Shuttle Thread...and thought I would make a Jello thread!! What is your favorite flavor...and what, if anything, do you like in it?
I will start. I like strawberry or orange, usually with fruit cocktail or mandarin oranges. But I also liked it the way my mom made it. She would start with Black Cherry Jello (do they still make that flavor?) Then she would mix in a can of pitted black cherries. She would also make little cream cheese balls...she would take some softened cram cheese, mixe in crushed or chopped walnuts, and make little cream cheese balls to mix into the jello. It was our "special occasion" jello..usually made for holidays. But it was great!! I tried making it once, but for some reason it just was not the same.

I think jello is a total waste
Is it really even food?

I think your "Jello" is our "jelly?"
I love it....fresh raspberries in raspberry flavour jelly, served with cream, of course...tangerine flavour with mandarin segments, bananas in jelly...
I just don't want to know where gelatine comes from. I've heard rumours, which I'm choosing to ignore.

Jelly, jam and preserves are all made from fruit mixed with sugar and pectin. The difference between them comes in the form that the fruit takes.
In jelly, the fruit comes in the form of fruit juice.
In jam, the fruit comes in the form of fruit pulp or crushed fruit (and is less stiff than jelly as a result).
In preserves, the fruit comes in the form of chunks in a syrup or a jam.

Yes, JELLO has it's own museum! It is in LeRoy, NY, about 30 miles south west of Rochester. It is actually closer to Batavia, where I grew up. And no, I have never been there...but I probably will become curious enough some time and go pay a visit.

No, seriously, Lulu, I sort of knew but I just try not to think about it...jellies look so fresh and fruity and innocent.

I can't believe no one mentioned Jello Shots! There are dozens (hundreds) of recipes for them but the simplest is to replace half the water for your favorite Jello with vodka. If you want to get really inventive then select liquors to complement your favorite flavor. Rum with Lemon-lime for instance.
Just 'google' "jello shots" to see the choices.

MMMMM...yes, I've seen Jello shots. But what I like better is to plug a watermelon and add vodka or rum! Let THAT soak overnight and....voila!

1. Never use everclear to make jello-shots, it will eat through your cups causing a mess. I found out this the hard way.
My favorite mixes are rum with strawberry-bananna flavored Jello, peach snaptz with peach flavored jello, and I like to mix the various Pucker flavors out there with the different jellos. However green apple jello and green apple pucker seriously make you PUCKER!

In my younger days we also did the watermelon . But we scooped it out, aded a few undiluted frozen juices (orange, lemonade, and mixed berry, I think) then smashed the watermelon pulp and poured it all back in the watermelon and added a fifth of vodka (tried Everclear but that is WICKED) chille it for awhile .
I'm glad I'm beyond that now!!:wah:

the way I do it is, use the called for amount of boiling water to dissolve the jello, then used your liquor for the cold portion of the water.

I've had something similiar but it was in a trash can. It was called jungle juice. It had everclear, vodka, rum, and gin, then loads of fruitpunch and fruit in it. The fruit was the most potent stuff. :wah:

It goes well if you are trying not to taste the Hummus as it comes back up! LOL.. It should sufficiently dull your taste buds so you won't have to taste it again!
My favorite Jello (non-alcoholic) dish is probably the venerable old recipe that Mom made.. Strawberry jello, with shredded carrots and bananas.. That makes a nice after dinner treat.
My favorite Jello (alcohol) shhoter would be Margarita shooters.. Lime jello, with tequila, and a sprinkle of salt just before you shoot it down.. INTOXICATING!!
