Thankfully all fans are'nt the same, i would happily go to any Man U home game alone, in the knowledge that i would be safe.

As you say Clancy, there will always be a few bad apples.

For a while I lived just round the corner from Maine Road - Saturdays were, interesting!

Now there are days when both the Foxes and the Tigers are playing at home (their grounds are 1/4 mile apart) when trying to drive through Leicester is an impossibility.

The Tartan Army (Scotland supporters who actually follow the squad) have an excellent record of good behavior, this is NOT acceptable to them, and everyone else here with a developed brain. Unfortunately we have our share of morons ....as has, the rest of the UK.

These two incidents are an embarrassment to us.

All countries have their period of lunacy over sporting events.:(

College kids burn cars when they win, riot in the streets with a victory-takes away from the fun of it being a sporting event!

It does, however, go with the "English Bastards Go Home" graffiti on the first bridge over the M6 after crossing the border.

After that we were made very welcome :)

As a by-the-way sorta thing, my parents took me to the States for the first time in 1976 (shortly after Princess Anne had been competing as part of the British equestrian team at the 1976 Olympics). It was during her 'John McEnroe' period when she swore at the press and raised 2 fingers to them. The Americans were horrified that a member of the British Royal Family could be so utterly foul-mouthed and abusive. I remember my parents having to apologise to their shocked American hosts on her behalf because their only view of the English at the time was through Upstairs Downstairs and they had expected us all to arrive dressed and speaking like the Bellamy family! :wah: I remember my parents were quite put-out as they couldn't stand Princess Anne and were annoyed at having to apologise for her behaviour!

It just goes to show - there are louts and hooligans every where! ;)

ArnoldLayne wrote: It certainly isnt a reflection on the Scottish at all. Having worked in Edinburgh I found nothing but respect and good humoured banter, in fact a young impressionable but passionate Celtic fan (who never wore anything but his Celtic shirt) latched on to us half a dozen West ham, Arsenal and Chelsea fans. He thought we were the proverbial dogs bollocks and rewarded us with regular tours of some good ale houses.

Friendly, often hysterically funny, football banter is part of British culture and will remain so. Thugs will always find an excuse. They crawl out from beneath the toilet seats occasionally. Every country has them

I recall a particular piece of Scottish/English banter from my time in Edinburgh, the punch line of which is..... Hibs 7- West Ham 1. It caused HUGE embarrasment to my friend but the story, I'm afraid, must go untold...here anyway

If that joke can appl;y to hearts as well please letb me knoe-I know a couple of diehard hearts fans.

The tabloid press are deleberately trying to stir it up. TB is getting heavily criticised for implying these thugs are part of the so called tartan army. It would be fair to say most scots are outraged at these two thugs.

Why do you always get moronic thugs coming out of the woodwork when there is a major football tournament on?! It makes me so angry! And to attack a seven year old as well. Pathetic!

I was talking to a passionate Scots supporter today - he always supports whoever is playing against England - and he was sooo embarased by what had happened.

They're not football supporters they're mindless bigots.

Might do some good in the long run. We're a bit too blind to what mindless bigotry and tolerance of it can lead to. I was listening to a talk show on the radio-as someone pointed out if someone walked down a street in Ibrox wearing a celtic shirt there is a bit of an attitude that he would be asking for it if he gets his head kicked in.
