What do you think?

Post by michelleevans »

I would like to know what some of the opinions are about this.

In the local paper today there was an aritcle about 2 parents being charged with neglect and lots of other stuff.

Here is the background on this as the paper states. They have not went to court yet.

A child about 3 or 4 was found dead inside his mothers car about 2 years ago.

The paper said that the parents told the police that they had laid thier son down for a nap and they also took a nap. Apparently the child only slept one hour.

When the parents woke up 3 hours later they could not find the child anywhere until they looked in his favorite playing place....... thier car.!

The child died and the parents are being charged as i said with neglect and some other stuff. What do you think should happen?

My opinion

I know that when my children were that little there was no time for a nap. When they were asleep there was other things that had to be done.

I think that if the parents needed a nap then they should have either slept with the child or take turns.

If the father worked nights then the mother should have stayed up. if he did not and she was sick or something then he should have stayed up.

Either way i think that they are at fault. How much fault i dont know and what punishment they should get i dont know.

but the only ones that know the real truth and what really happened is the Lord and the parents.

I would want to know a LOT more detail before commenting as well as seeing the post mortem results which could prove or disprove how and where the child died. Lividity in the body would give an a accurate time of death but that would also depend on the temperature inside the car where the body was found , did the child suffocate , was the body moved . What was the official cause of death. Why weren't there adequate child proof locks on the front door and why was the child able to get into the family car , why were both parents asleep. The family history is quite important here - were they drunks , junkies, is there a history of mental problems. Was the family known to social services - i do find it odd that the child would play in the car and at the age of 3 or 4 children rarely just drop down dead, although, there have been cases of adult SIDS - i would be interested to see the outcome of this case. Being a cynic it would be easy to just assume the parents where probably high and contributed to the childs death then placed the child in the car and claimed they just found it dead. - please Michelle if you can give us some more details or let us know the outcome .:)
Can go from 0 - to bitch in 3.0 seconds .:D

I agree with Pants that they SHOULD look very carefully into ALL the facts of this case.

However, I also agree with Floppy that kids DO get into everything, accidents DO happen and we SHOULD be more compassionate. If this is just a terrible tragedy then how awful to accuse parents who must be going through their own personal hell. They NEED to analyse the whole situation thoroughly AND treat the parents compassionately as well. Often in these cases you see the parents being accused, imprisoned and badly treated with no firm evidence against them.

Several years ago there was a story about a toddler who slept very briefly. His parents were so exhausted they put him in his baby reins and tied the reins to his bed, so he'd have to stay there safely whilst they got some much-needed sleep. Unfortunately he tried to wriggle out and ended by strangling himself on the reins. :-1 Its the sort of incidence you can look at and feel dreadful about but also think 'what a stupid thing to do', but when you are that exhausted you just can't think straight.
