i cannot believe this is Rod Stewart! he has done American Songbooks l, ll and lll. they are utterly beautiful, all lovely old classic love songs, and done with tendernesss, grace, and style. i cannot recommend them too highly. today i bought the first one, some of the songs are i'll be seeing you, it had to be you, the way you look tonight, the nearness of you, and more. i have to get ll tomorrow because it contains as time goes by among other beauties. Stewart does an absolutely stunning and lush job on these evocative old songs. it warms my heart to listen. it's mellow and soft. i think everyone could find at least one song on these CDs to relate to. *sigh* they are a romantic tour de force.

Ahem. I almost met Rod this summer. I could have met him had I wanted to but I chose not to because he was looking like he was on private time withthe family so I didn't bother. We did have good eye contact though and I knew he was thaankful for it.

I was sitting in my favourite spot in Kensington Market when a taxi cab pulled up across the street. Out of the cab came 2 teens, a beautiful blonde and someone who looked a lot like Rod Stewart. They walked into a store run by a friend that sells second hand clothing with the profits going to Africa and the fight aainst AIDS.

Wondering if I had seen what I thought I had seen I chose to satisfy myself with a could have? Several moments later Rod came out and stood on the street waiting for the others. There was eye contact and I knew that it was Rod. There were the imaginary waves and acknowledgements of the star meeting the fans but I didn't budge because it was all being played out in our heads.

We kept exchanging glances as the nervousness of the star feeling that he had been recognized but was given his space to be a private person played about his aura.

Moments later the rest showed up and they went off into the market. No wave on my behalf but there was an appreciative glance from him as he left was my reward. Good enough for me.

A couple of Days later the radios and tv's blared with the news thatRod had played a few gigs and was now on his way to Ameirca. It felt good for me. I hope it felt good for him too. No autograph but the memory is there. One I know that we both shared.

The first time that I ever heard him was when he was in a band called mall facesand Jeff Beck. I heard his voice and I said, to myself and whoever would listen, that there is something unique about this person. Everyone else was giving credit to the big name that the album was accredited to but there was that voice. I watched his career like millions of others and had that smug satisfaction that I was right. There was that greatness that I felt that he had which had come to the fore.

You get me his phone number and I'll call and ask him to send the stuff to you. Maybe a few autographs, too.

He certainly has a voice. His articulation and inflection are too much.
