The Game

Post by koan »

The numbness fades and with it takes

a cold and hollow heart

There is no need to live the past

I look for a new start.

Before me stands a monolith

A slab of pitted stone

I reach to touch its surface

And find myself alone.

An ancient tree of twisted bark

Appears and beckons me

To walk inside its wooded trunk

And learn its mystery.

Of knowledge one can only taste

The fruit that has been eaten

The path that one must follow

Must first be calmly beaten.

With wisdom and with sacrifice

With patience and with care

I listen to the ancient tree

And lay my soul to bare.

Who was I when I first was born

and what did I become?

Are these just trinkets to be worn

Or the factors of a sum?

There are no answers to be had

The quest is just a game

To finding that which hides behind

A body and a name.

Wow, nice. I have been sneaking peeks at your poetry- it's wonderful.
Look what the cat dragged in.
