DO YOU FULL STOP at all STOP SIGNS?

Post by cars »

So with the high prices of Gas now a days, I find myself coming to a STOP sign, & in an effort to help (me) my car conserve gas, I look both ways & if no other car is in sight I slow down to about 10mph, & then slowly accelerate and keep on going. Also at a RED traffic light, expecially at night, I will stop, & if no other cars are in sight, I will carefully go past it, instead of letting the car sit there at "idle" for 1-1/2+ minutes, wasting gas.

SO DO YOU FIND YOURSELF DOING SIMILAR THINGS TO HELP IMPROVE YOUR CARS MPG?

Ok I'll admit on Texas Beef Road there is a 4 way stop, but at night I don't always come to a stop. I'm guilty. :o

There are no stoplights in my town, so I don't have to worry bout those. But I generally do stop at stop signs in town because it's the time of year when kids are always out playing.

Holy Smokes!!! Cars?!!! Running a RED LIGHT?!!! It's the end of the world as we know it. LOL!

But seriously, if it's a four way stop, you bet I'll come to a omplete stop and make sure every other driver is looking at me befor I go.

But a right turn at a red light, when the other left turn arrow is lit up? i'll go for it every time, just slow down, look and go.

One thing I won't do. Inch out into the intersection to make a left turn, then get stuck out there and have to turn (on red) in front of everyone when they have the green light. That's just rude. I stay back unless I can make it all the way across on green.

Right, I "definately full stop" at the Stop sign if there were other cars "in sight", but as I did mention, now a days I don't full stop if there are "no other cars in sight". Same for the red light, full stop, & "if no other cars are in sight", I won't wait there at idle for 1-1/2 to 2 minutes waiting for it to change, just waisting gas. Doing this, I have noticed at least a 3 gal "less" use of gas during my standard regular driving week. ;)

Like tmbsgrl, we always called it a California stop-you kind of roll along if you can get away with it. That's what the cops call it if they pull you over.:wah:

Your right Chons the "California Stop" is real. I don't do it much any more to many nuts driving right through red lights these days, and cops alway seem to be at the intersection I decide to roll through..:wah: :wah: In fact the last ticket I got was for not coming to a complete stop...:-5

Our system may be slightly different here.

Our 'STOP' signs mean stop and I do

The most common signs are 'GIVE WAY' so you can drive 'dead slow' up to the white line and stop or go depending on the traffic.

I have a slight paranoia about obeying the rules of the road....it's like having an invisible Policeman in the car about to give me a 'ticket' if I make a dumb move....sad I know.

Right you are Bez, I too always followed the rules & laws all my life. That's why I now find it suprising to myself that I'm now geting "bold" enough to ammend the laws "in my mind" to adjust for the extenuating circumstances.:)

Oh, Cars, what am I gonna do with you? At 3 bucks or so a gallon, call

it 10 bucks you save a week, if you DO get busted it's going to cost

way more than that for a fine!! And when you do stuff like this, you

eventually wear down over time and end up not being quite as

careful about time of day or other cars around. Some LEO will be

parked behind a tree and pop you big time!! Or maybe there's a

camera!! YIKES!!

I always think about what a LEO told my sis one time when she was

pulled over for speeding... (she wasn't going too much over the

limit) It's still breaking the law whether you rob a bank and get 100

bucks or 10,000!

I know I'm Baaaaaaad val, but it makes me feel good thinking I'm fighting back against the high gas prices, prices that are only going to go higher!!!!:wah:

And don't get me wrong, I am very, no, make that "extremely" over cautious taking those liberties! (I'm the "only" car around when I do it;) )

Don't worry, I don't drive the truck much-only vehicle with manual gears. I really don't think my son knows anything about coasting in neutral. He still is learning to shift properly!

Lol! i like it Bez but agree with you... things are way diffferent and wouldn't like to be seen breaking the law... or being given a heafty fine for that matter either... no way!

Altho saying that i did once used to break the law on a daily morning basis to avoid the traffic jam by going through a no entry sign... as it was early i thought i'd be ok that was until there were 2 coppers in the car park waiting for us naughty people :-3 £30 fine... oops lol

My mate did it that same morning and got away with it... not happy considering she was my team leader at the time too... :-5 lol ;)
