I was watching the history channel-programme on the "troubles" During internment they had history classes, forget who but one of the protestant leaders would ask why are you here? The point being that many of those involved actually knew very little of the history behind the hatred between catholic and protestant and why they were actually fighting. Same in Scotland they don't talk about sectarianism they just fight about it, rational human beings become phsychotic nutters in no time flat. Most of them have no idea why Ulster Scot in the first place.
