WHERE THE SHADOWS LAY



"For what do I fight?" I scream at the dawn.

Yet the sun mocks me as it brings the day.

The promise of comfort has withdrawn.

I return where the shadows lay.

"In time the answer will come to you."

I heard the voice softly say.

Within myself enlightenment grew.

In the place where the shadows lay.



As twilight came, with peace in her veil,

the shimmering stars lighting her way.

My spirit arose, luminous and pale,

from the place where the shadows lay.

"For me, is the reason you struggle so."

Cried the voice, beckoning me to stay.

"Remember my promise from long ago."

In the place where the shadows lay.



"Forever mine." the deep voice speaks.

"For you belong not unto the day."

"For it is I alone, your heart seeks."

In the place where the shadows lay.



"In Salem," my memory shouts it's return.

Where truth was led astray.

On a pyre of death, as a witch I would burn.

and come to where the shadows lay.

The feel of my lovers touch, as we again became one,

was torn from me by one who would betray.

Jealously of a wicked heart, leaving truth undone,

In the place where the shadows lay.

.And so it is for him I wait,

until the rising sun holds sway

and as the hour now grows late,

I return where the shadows lay.
