Good morning Bez, good morning Chris, I saw OM's great thread fantastic that is. I hope everybody has enjoyed our picture travels. It is going to be a challenge when I get home to not duplicate what everyone else has posted here.

Looks like an easy do not much quiet day here, Chris we have less rain than you I think. So will see what we do here shortly.

Hello Chris. I'm well (but wish I wasn't at work) and I am reflecting on our lovely day in Canterbury.

It was sad from my point of view that I was actually giving Minks the very LAST hug before she goes home.

Never mind....we've got lots of memories and loads of pictures to treasure.

Maybe you could look at some places to go that are half way between US and YOU and we could all meet up again...

Hehehehehe you really should be jumping for joy knowing I left that stuff at home..... actually I heard from my daughter last nite (i called her) they are basking in warm sun now so perhaps that is what I will be going back to....(keeps fingers crossed that I could be so lucky to have the sun here the past week and go home to some as well)

But really the weather has not dampened the spirit of this trip at all. I mean what are memories about, soggy weather, elephants and trafalgar square, what more could a tourist ask for.

That would be great, but after this fantastic event, my money has been somewhat drained, so I don't think that at least for a short little while would be able to make another meet yet. Though hopefully if you would all like to, in a few months I should be able to take another little vacation, so we can all get together again sometime. I'm not too sure where that could be though. Halfway between me and London is about an hour, so I guess that went be somewhere around the Weston Super Mare area!! (you may remember how much I love that place!!)

Oh quite true. If anything getting lost and the rain, in a strange way made the day even more unique and special than it already was, it's certainly something that none of us will ever forget!!

And you spoke to Jr Minks yesterday, I hope the family are keeping well??

Im studying for a legal exam this wednesday..then a social polocy paper due tuesday the next week and l have to fit in a 30 day work placement between now and the 22nd of june l believe so its gonna be tight..will have to let the tutors know that placements were delayed and l cant hand in hte practice work book at that date, l will never fit it in.

can't wait till its over...:-3 lm getting stressed.....

That does sound really hectic. I really hope that you are able to get thorugh this and come out with some excellent grades. Hopefully afterwards you will be able to take a big break and relax, and get some good deserved rest!!

I bought a small silver version in the gift shop ...I already have several chains. It's a lovely way to commemorate a lovely day and a fantastic place.

I think this cross is associated with St Augustine going back to the 8th century.

"The original, probably made in the 8th century, was found beneath a street in Canterbury. A replica of it is to be found in the Cathedral mounted on the wall in the south west transept. Similar replicas, mounted on fragments of stone from Canterbury Cathedral, are placed in our cathedrals in all parts of the world, linking them with Canterbury, the mother church of the Anglican Communion."

One thing I won't forget, is how helpful the staff were. Raven asked some questions that we had been asking ourselves (good old Raven) and they were just too happy to pass on their knowledge. 2 things particulalry..

Where are the remains of St Thomas Becket ? The answer was that they were destroyed by order of Henry111, but I think there is a mystery here....well I like to think so anyway (more romantic that way).......maybe they'll turn up in the future http://www.digiserve.com/peter/becket2.htm

The second was about a room we went into called the 'chapter house'...what was the purpose of the room ? What happened here ? Well apparently, the Benedictine Monks gathered here each morning and read a 'chapter' from the bible or some other book was read and studied....quite logical really. http://www.canterbury-cathedral.org/

For some reason Chris, this place really 'affected me'.

It wasn't like a museum of ancient artifacts and exhibits, it was a 'working' building that very much has been doing the same 'job' for hundreds of years. There was nothing 'cold' about it even in the crypt...it seemed to be a place filled with the warmth of thousands of lives and adventures....you could imagine the monks walking in the cloisters and wonder about the thousands of pilgrims that visited there over the years....the steps are worn away with the feet and knees of these people.

I think it "stirred" us all, it was amazing. Well this is just a short catch up for you all, yesterday we hung out here at Raven and Voodoos house, I got to watch "Red Dwarf" hmmmmm funny yes, ummmm yeah ok, funny sure I will play along hehehehehehe

Today we went to Hever Castle (home of Anne Boleyn of Bullen as it was spelled way back then) It was beautiful. The gardens again were outstanding and huge, another maze but we did well getting through that. There was the gorgeous Itallian Gardens with fabulous pieces from Rome we presume. I seem to have acquired a keen taste for castles, gardens and churches. The rain came down near the end of our day, but we snuck off to a teeeeny church across from the castle grounds and poked around it for a bit, this was where Anne Boleyn's father was buried. All in all another great day.

Tomorrow likely back into London, as we have cancelled our marathon drive to Stonehenge due to distance, weather and the fact it is all fenced now and to me I am having a tough time justifying 5 hours in the car one way for that.

We went to Greenwich today! Stood across two hemispheres!
