Let me be not-so-subtle and say: YOU'RE NICE!!
The definition of 'NICE'
Actually Bez, I think it may have to do with the actual usage of the word. I can remember at school (a long, long time ago) being told repeatedly to find an alternative to the word nice e.g any of the synonyms you mentioned but not "nice."
I've got an idea...why don't we start a campaign to raise poor "nice" to its former glory?

Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answers...Rainer Maria Rilke
The definition of 'NICE'
& yet some would rather be a bitch
Bitches have some or all of the following characteristics.
1) Personality. Bitches are aggressive, assertive, domineering, overbearing, strong-minded, spiteful, hostile, direct, blunt, candid, obnoxious, thick-skinned, hard-headed, vicious, dogmatic, competent, competitive, pushy, loud-mouthed, independent, stubborn, demanding, manipulative, egoistic, driven, achieving, overwhelming, threatening, scary, ambitious, tough, brassy, masculine, boisterous, and turbulent. Among other things. A Bitch occupies a lot of psychological space. You always know she is around. A Bitch takes **** from no one. You may not like her, but you cannot ignore her.
i'd rather be nice

I've only just seen this thread. It (as with so much else in life) has utterly confused me. I was told at school only to ever use nice if I meant finely distinguished. I was nine, since I remember it was Mr Whittle who ran that particular class. What's changed since then?

Dunno.
My parents always told me to be 'nice' but I never really got what that meant, apparently, because shortly after that command came a smack on the back of my head and , "I thought I told you to be NICE!"

How amazing!!!! Why would Spot bother to revive this rather obvious and dreary thread -after it lay dormant (probably comatose) for five years??? Are we that short of conversation? Maybe it's a nice point, and I'm not being too nice to ask, but it would be nice to know... Bugger that. Who really cares.... and where's the Butter Refrigeration Thread.... if desperate that works.... Forget it... Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

This one caught my eye and I red it, wondering what had been said. My exclamation was, I thought, reasonable. Was it not reasonable? I don't often open old threads except when they're in the "similar threads" box, and I rarely add to those I do open.
