I'm bumping this thread because today is my Mom's eightieth birthday.
My Dad and sister are going to see her.
Forgive me just a bit of sentimentality gang.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY VAL'S MUM x:yh_flower
WONDERFUL MOTHER
God made a wonderful mother,
A mother who never grows old;
He made her smile of the sunshine,
And He moulded her heart of pure gold;
In her eyes He placed bright shining stars,
In her cheeks fair roses you see;
God made a wonderful mother,
And He gave that dear mother to me.

She used to be, Nomad. She used to be. She has suffered from
Alzheimers for many years now.
She can still smile and laugh and have what passes for fun. No gray
hair at all so I think all the other little old men in her facility follow
her around as the youngest babe there.
I sure do miss being able to talk to her.
She used to dance at the Stage Door Canteen in SF.
I always was embarrassed about her, she'd break into song (Broadway
tunes usually) at the drop of a hat, and she never knew an enemy.
Wouldn't bat an eye if she met the Queen. Probably (before Alzheimers)
pull out pictures of grandkids or something.

MOTTO TO LIVE BY:
"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming.
WOO HOO!!, what a ride!!!"

How very sweet of you to say... thank you.
Mom was REALLY happy to have a baby... doctors had told her she
couldn't and THEN... there was me!

A bump in honor of her 82nd.
I got to "talk" to her wednesday. My sister was celebrating mom's
bday that day and she called me. It was thoughtful of her to do,
but sad for me.
Happy Birthday to the best mom in the whole wide world.

It's silly that we can do so little sometimes. It's a reminder to make the most of whoever's left while it's an option, and to remember the ones who aren't.
