Good going LC!

I love when I leave school, and catch my students doing stuff. I caught them throwing snowballs at passing cars this winter, and right when they were winding up for the pitch at my truck, they saw it was me, and they ran as fast as they could.

They had a lovely lunch detention the next day, washing blackboards, washing desk................:D

this is how it starts, as i'm sure you know. vandalism. then the parents say their precious baby could never do such a thing. yeah, right. we'll see them in juvenile court ultimately, then the adult jail when they turn 18. i can only hope the parents give a damn.

Hi Betty, Valerie, Basco. Gosh that coffee looks good!!! You mean you're getting inundated by daytrippers and holidaymakers Betty? That must mean Easter Weekend!!! Here, I'm really looking forward to going to the National Folk Festival. This is not 'folk' like the old Woodstock - but encompasses everything from Bluesy Gospel, to Appalachian clog dancing, to Morris dancing, to French courtly dancing, to Irish song, fiddlers from Cap Breton, Kletzmer bands, sea shanties from New England, industrial working songs, good aussie yarns, didgeridoos and mouth harps, concertinas and bagpipes, insturment workshops, instrument makers (I bought a hand made wooden flute a couple of festivals ago), singing, bush poetry, food from everywhere, street theatre, kids busking, people camping out, black cockatoos the size of hens, good fun generally.

I had to look that up, Betty!!! Wasn't going to post again today, but heck, here I go:

FASCINATING!!!

"The word emmet actually means an ant. If you’re a local resident it’s an excellent term to describe the hordes of tourists that descend on your locality to enjoy the summer weather, beaches and countryside of Cornwall, in the process clogging the narrow local roads and generally getting in the way of everyday life. It comes from the Old English aemette, which developed one way into our standard English ant, another into emmet, which survived as a dialect word. The dictionaries first record it in the tourism sense from the mid 1970s, but I remember it being used some years earlier as an already well-established term.

One peculiarity is that it’s used mainly in Cornwall; if you cross the River Tamar into Devon you will instead hear grockle .. "

http://www.worldwidewords.org/weirdwords/ww-emm1.htm

-----

May the Good Lord protect us all from emmets and grockles !!!

Now, I'm really off.. Take care, Everyone.

Snooze, is that where she writes about a female cop, like, 50 years in the future? (Maybe I'm thinking of another author, though..)

Aww...poor Bothwell. Don't you hate it when they're down and you can't get to them? Is he better today, or have you not been in contact?

Now, now BR !!! We're going to be good little FG citizens and not litterbugs. We are going to pick up the pace and put it in the trash can right now. And while we are at it we are going to try and collect all the droppings left in here by assorted emus or are they ostriches. Anyway, in case there is an earthquake, and Nomad is caught with one foot on each side and splitting his daks - we want the forum to be neat and tidy.

LC - I hope your bloke is feeling better very soon. What a pain. Glad you'll be in better touch soon.

Had a ball today at the Festival. Highlights were:

a face off between the four lots of morris dancers and the four lots of belly dancers. The morris dancers had loads of nice jingly bells, but the belly dancers with their generously proportioned shimmying stomachs, undulating everythings and wicked eyes won hands down

a couple of Italian aussie blokes dressed up as black-clad grandmas and singing crazy sendups of Italian folk songs

a bluegrass concert with an Appalachian clogger

just sitting in the sunshine - when the ice on the grass melted - and yacking to the zydeco teacher who's from Michigan.. (evil eyelash fluttering grin)
