Ok after a little encouraging and hunting I decided to try this....
I thought it would be fun for anyone out there to post bits of news from where they live. Just gives us all some insight into each others lives, it doesn't have to be anything revealing or shocking
Here is a happy ending story we have had in the news for a few days.
Man reunited with dog after offering $10,000 reward

POSTED AT 2:20 PM Sunday, April 9
A Calgary man has been reunited with his dog after he offered a hefty reward for the person who could find and return Rocco.
After Rocco went missing on March 26, Hannes Kovac offered a $10,000 reward to the person who returned the dog. Kovac also said he'd make a $3,000 donation to the Alberta Children's Hospital.
Kovac also spent $13,000 on full-page newspaper ads and posters.
All this time the dog has been at an acreage near Dewinton.
The acreage owner finally saw the ad and called Kovac.
Kovac gladly handed over the $10,000 cheque, and says he and his dog were both excited to be together again.
Rocco had a few scrapes and had gained weight, but otherwise the dog is fine.

Cool!
Gosh that was hard minksey! I scanned my local news and had to dig three pages deep for something that was not negative. OY!
such as it is:
Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk gearing up for 100th birthday celebrations
04/09/06
Santa Cruz (BCN) - Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk beauties and carousel workers from the 1950s share their stories along with others in a new collection gathered by Boardwalk officials in celebration of the seaside park's 100th birthday in 2007.
Boardwalk officials announced this week that they have embarked on a project to capture stories, photographs and home movies for a book and DVD about the history of the amusement park.
The book will be published in 2007 in time for the Boardwalk's centennial celebration.
The Boardwalk also intends to hold several yet unspecified events throughout 2007 to mark the anniversary.
...the scene for many a film. My family went to the Boardwalk every chance we got. Still do. I also got to work there when I was 18.

did find this one... not nice news.
Story of murdered transgender teen being made into TV movie
I get really cranky when I see things like "6 years" as a sentence for such a violent crime. My son is "incarcerated" for a stupid mistake he made at the age of 14. Not saying he wasn't guilty or shouldn't be punished. But yeesh. I know of several rapists who got 3 years. Son is now in his 5th. grr.

Glimpse of farm life
Youngsters will be able to witness the miracle of life and get a glimpse of farm life action at Coombes Farm, near Lancing this month.
These cute lambs pictured above are just a few of more than 500 which have been born this year.
Children and families can also enjoy farm tours on a tractor and admire the viewes from the top of the downs while watching the lambs who are put out on the downs to eat and play at three days old.
The farm is run by the Passmore family, which has been farming there for several generations. There are alos course fishing lakes, a caravan site and a model aeroplane club based on the farm.
Lambing takes place until Friday April 21 and costs £5 adults and £4 children.

Now this really irks me, they say "they doged the bullet last time" but can't admit last time the Red Mile happened it want off without a hitch, so could they not be proud of this...... Negative Naysayers. This city is NHL hockey crazy and last time we went to playoffs was so huge the "Bar District" which is one road about a mile long went crazy, it was one giant street party for the entire playoffs and our city made it to the final game of the final plays offs and lost, we were hugely proud of them. But the "red mile" was just a blast, there was no booze allowed, just loads of happy people. No fights, or vandals, it was really very well managed.....
City throws cold water on Red Mile

POSTED AT 11:44 AM Monday, April 10
There won't be a party on the Red Mile this year, just plenty of police and city bylaw officers.
The city has decided to take preemptive action against the huge crowds that gathered on 17th Avenue during the Calgary Flames playoff run in 2004.
Starting Tuesday, a parking ban will be in place from 3:30 p.m. to midnight on the strip from Macleod Trail to 8th Street S.W.
In addition, eastbound traffic will be shut down to a single lane.
Police and bylaw officers will be out in force, writing tickets for loitering and open liquor, and taking other measures to discourage any criminal activity or large crowds.
Police say the city "dodged a bullet" last time the Flames made it into the playoffs.
They will also be keeping a close eye on any overcrowding in bars in the city.

Paul Ellering during Iditarod.
April 10, 2006 – 3:40 PM
Back home in Minnesota now, the eye that musher Paul Ellering froze in Alaska last month -- with the thermometer flirting with 50 degrees below -- is slowly healing. The pain is gone, the vision apparently returning.

Well sadly our news tends to always been doom and gloom, but I have found one happy story, that I can share with u all for my area.
City scheme for 100,000 new trees
A charity aims to plant 100,000 trees across Birmingham before 2010.
Trees for Cities has been working in London and is setting up a partnership with Birmingham City Council and the Birmingham Civic Society.
Lord Mayor John Hood is holding a reception on Monday at the Council House to launch the project.
The partnership aims to raise awareness and understanding of the value of trees, and to improve the quality of life city residents and workers.
Activities this year will include Birmingham's first ever "Tree-Athlon" in October, a three-part event, with a 5k run, a "tree wish" and tree planting.
'Greenest cities'
The Lord Mayor, Councillor Hood, said: "It is a great honour to be hosting the launch of this wonderful new partnership in the city which looks set to improve the quality of life for people who live and work in Birmingham."
Graham Simmonds, Trees for Cities chief executive, said: "It's really very exciting to be launching Trees for Cities - Birmingham.
"The onset of global warming is the most serious issue we face and the charity's work in the city will not only have a positive impact on climate change, but it will also beautify the urban landscape. "We hope we can work together to make Birmingham one of the greenest cities in the UK."

Frog find in salad with the works
Jade Bilowol
April 11, 2006
A DEAD frog was an unwanted ingredient in the pre-mixed Caesar salad a woman bought from a Brisbane supermarket.
Julie Lumber, of Springfield in Brisbane's west, was preparing for a barbecue when the green intruder dropped out of a Caesar salad "with the works" bought from Coles at the weekend.
"I opened up the bag and the frog fell out on the side of the plate," Ms Lumber said today.
"I just went 'oh my God' and then we had a laugh about it.
"I couldn't stomach French food with the frogs legs and snails and I wasn't about to try it the other day."
Luckily the five-centimetre frog, which died clinging to a green lettuce leaf with its left leg outstretched, was found before the barbecue got under way on Saturday evening.
"There were a few of us in the kitchen - luckily other people were with me to see it because you wouldn't want people to think you put it in there," Ms Lumber said.
"We were worried it could go undetected because of the green colour of the lettuce and the green colour of the frog and that's why we contacted Coles."
She said she took a photo of her unusual salad before returning the package, frog and all, to Coles at Springfield Fair.
"I took it back with the frog and got a full refund - the supermarket's management said they would send it off to (their) quality assurance (department) and they gave me a receipt number (so I can track its progress)."
Ms Lumber is a packer at Australia Meat Holdings at Dinmore, west of Brisbane.
"If we did that we would be in trouble ... to miss a whole dead frog," Ms Lumber said.
"I'll make my own salads from now on because at least I can wash the lettuce myself.
"I (still) love French dressing, I always put it on my salads - just not that type."
A Coles Springfield Fair duty manager would not comment on the incident.

Yuch! I remember once the science teacher did a frog dissection-and he wasn't swift on watching the kids. They all took the frog tongues, and stuck them in a kid's salad at lunch-I found out and grabbed the salad away from him before he ate it and told the science teacher...............oh, I am snoopy.........................
