I would like to know what you are really afraid of. Some people are afraid of snakes others of heights....what gives you nightmares? Ive put this post in paranormal partly because I didn't know where else it fits and partly because I find it odd that people all around the world are scared of the same things for no obvious reason....is there a psychic link there?

For me its things that flap really fast like moths or birds trapped in the house.

I also have a slight obsession with certain places in my house...in the kitchen I cant help looking through the window if its dark to see if I see a pair of eyes stairing back. Another nightime thing that gives me the bumps is checking the front door....you have to push the handle up to double lock it something we only do at night...but that letterbox is so close that a hand might come through worse yet a knife...

Before anyone asks yes I've seen a lot of horror movies I had insomnia really bad as a kid.

WELL DARE YOU SHARE?
Blessed be.

My nightmares consist of losing something -- like my luggage or a glove.

Also my inability to get someplace due to missed flights or losing my passport.

My nighmares are my lack of being organized and ready for things -- sort of just like real life for me.................

My dreams are almost always violent. I have nightmares about the psycho ex who used to beat the crap out of me daily, and those I wake up Bullet from my thrashing around and sometimes yelling out or crying.

But even just my every night dreams are violent in one way or another. Very detailed, and I always remember them.

In my nightmares I'm always in trouble....drowning, being stabbed, being shot. I never have nice dreams but thank goodness the nightmares don't happen very often.

Again they are based on reality. Im sorry you had to go through that and still endure it in your dreams.

I wonder if there is a psycological method of preventing nightmares.

I've read a little about dreams and such, and there's a theory that states you can control your dreams. It takes practice, and has worked for me sporadically, but never in the nightmares about the ex.

Funny thing, I'm completely over the abuse, I'm not afraid, either of seeing him or of going through it again, but I have nightmares about it pretty frequently.

Even in some of the bad dreams, I can fly, and I recall actually being in a dream and thinking, "OK, this is a dream, just fly away to get out of here." Sometimes I can, sometimes I can't.

double bugger...

for me personally, the few dreams I do remember are usually about my kids dying and me being unable to prevent it, hence the nuclear bomb dream, the traffic accident dream, the paedophile dream...you see where I'm going. Less destructive, more a bit of a worrier.

supposedly, according to pseudo-psychological interpretation, my violent dreams mean i was abused as a kid. nothing could be further from the truth. i think it's because of my job where assailants trying to kill me is my reality. and we train and train endlessly for it. so of course it embeds itself into one's subconscience.

I have had dreams many times in my life which were precognitions of things to come. Unfortunately, Recognition didnt come until the incident was happening. Im a liitle nervous because a couple of weeks ago, I dreamt I was in an airplane that turned upside down.

Hi there Venus, I checked your profile, hope you don't mind...we seem to have a lot in common....books overflowing the house and I like the blade movies to.

I can usually control my dreams...and the interesting thing I have found recently through talking to our local door knocking Jahovas witnesses (sorry if the spellings wrong I am pagan) most people don't know when they are asleep. I always know, it's always been that way for me and I was a bit taken aback when having a discussion on what death would be like she said like falling asleep.

The nightmare of losing one of my loved ones has never run through (well not for my real loved ones) I don't let it, at the appropriate moment, I just think stop in an almost scream. I used to dream about losing the sister that I never had, In a place that was really old fashioned thatched roofs etc

I'm not sure why I let nightmares run their course normally even though I'm aware its a dream.....I think of it as ying and yang to let your mind explore what it needs to you need good dreams and bad ones
Blessed be.

Interesting topic, loads of my dreams match my daily thoughts all mixed together in a story of some sort behind my eyelids.

As for what wakes me in a sweat, being in a small enclosure, yeah in real life I am claustrphobic (can't spell it), and the worst nightmare always is one of haveing very limited vision, and it failing during the nightmare. That one bothers me the most.

I used to dream of not being able to walk, legs moving and me not going anywhere, but as soon as I changed jobs and didn't have to wear high heels again, the nightmares went away ahahahaha funny but so darn true, and I dont' miss the heels ahahahahaha

So I wonder if your nightmares about not walking came because you subcontiously hated the heels or because your muscles were aching and it was your body's way of telling you?

I really think it was about how much I detest high heels. All my life I have had problems with dress shoes not fitting me well, I think this is like an extension to it ahahahahaha

I hope to never ever give up this job where I come to work in jeans and my high end sneakers. I could walk for days in these shoes hehehehe

Well I haven't had that many nightmares thankfully, touchwood, but that's probably because I tend to have dream overload most nights. I go to sleep, have a short dream about something random, then wake up, go back to sleep within 20 seconds, then have another dream, and so on until I finally get up.

No wonder that I'm usually looking lost and confused when I wake up. :-2

Hello Vampress. To answer your question, no I don't think that I have always had that pattern in my sleep, though it has become more apparant over the last 6 months or so I would say. That pattern happens on average about 4 nights of the week, whilst the other 3 nights are normally, go to sleep, have a dream, wake up.

I wouldn't say that I get a lack of sleep, as when I do wake up it only takes me a matter of moments to go back to sleep, but when I do return to the dream state, it is never the same dream I had a minute ago, but a completely different one. So as I wake up several times during the night, you can see why it's quite strange waking up in the morning after having numerous dreams, especially when you can remember quite a bit about them, which I usually can.

I had a strange dream last night, not exactly a nightmare but I thought I'd share it for interpretation purposes. It was very, very real feeling even though as usual I was aware that I was asleep.

I was a teenager in some sort of building someone ,a stranger, spoke to me he asked about my dad I told them they were at a bar-b-q. He spoke about how he believed we knew each other but he couldnt remember where from. I felt instantly that we did. He had a lady with him she never spoke. A friend (in my dream not in real life) and I went with them to the cafe area. As he spoke he touched my hand it was almost electrical connection (not sexual) but as if I should know him that it was right we were sat there with each other. A forgotten history if that makes any sense. He said that him and this lady were getting married in a couple of weeks and showed me their invites. When they left the cafe they left them behind, I thought it was intentional. Even though it was dark outside I chased after them. They were heading into a pub I caught them and handed the invites to her. She went inside as he said I need to talk to you alone. He asked me to jump on some piece of equipment so we could get up high. I did so and realised I was springing in the air and he had not jumped as well.....he was trying to kill me....I thought grab the chain and I grabbed a chain as I fell through the air. A crowd had gathered below. As I looked down I saw police arresting him but he looked at me a smiled....he never intended me to die somehow I knew that he wanted me to save myself...I smiled back and then woke up feeling incredibly relaxed.
Blessed be.

try eating a lot of cheese before going to bed...ha ha its been proven to be the cause of nightmares...wierd ay.

i am a true belive'er that dreams are caused by your real thaughts that are trying to get out, maybe you have a fantasy of some thing that you never tell, or want to live a life that you can never hope to live.

i my self never seam to have nightmares ???? but dreams of another life my dreams have even been as wierd of people i have never met, and then do some time later, may be a week a month a year and then da shar vu . WAM..... ITS THE WIERDEST FEELING...

I have even had a dream were i see the world from what appears to be a birds eye view, and seeing the world as it was before the world was spoilt with buildings and man........you have realy started me on one here, i better shut up and let some one else in her...ha ha ha

Thanks for the reply shadow man cool name by the way. I've only seen the world from a birds eye view once (well in fact it was through a glass dome of some sort of rocket ship lol) and I wont forget how incredibly blue it looked absolutely beautiful not like the real life pictures you see from Nasa.

So if dreams are our real thoughts trying to get out, do we have nightmares in order to shock ourselves into doing something?

I had this dream as a child, well nightmare, it drove me close to craziness l swear.

I wanst very old maybe 10 adm l had this dream night after nioght for months to the point l was scared to sleep.

Im in hte house with my mum and dad and the news is on. They are both in the kitchen and dont hear it, Their is a news announcement on hte tv suddenly that aliens have landed and that they can make themselves look human and they are hunting people for food..

I watch this in fascination and then the dooe bell rings. I run to tell mu mum anout the aliens on hte news but lm too late my dad has let strange men into the house. They say they are selling windows. I peep round the corner and l can tell they are bad. I sneak away to my bedroom which l am sharing with my younger baby brother (l do have one 7 years younger) aand get him from his crib wantign to run away with him to keep him safe.

I get to the room and close the door quietely and lock it. I then hear blood curdling screams and thwacking noises from down stairs..I just know in my heart it is then killing my parents and that they will be coming for us.

I lift my brrother from his cot and go to the window opening it as softly as l can l am terrified of them hearing. I just get it open when l hear the door being tried..I can hardly breathe now as l am so scared and l want so much to save my brother.

I wrap a sheet round him and start to lower him to the ground when the neighbour sees and seems to know what is wrong and puts her finger to her lips and lets me know she will catch him and make it away safe.

Im so close now to having him safe and being to get away myself, l hear the door crash open behind me and then feeling something hitting me in hte legs adn l slip to the floor of the bed room as mt brother makes it to the arms of safety. The alienis angry and runs to the door to call to the others that the delicacy is getting away, l lift myself up and look, its holding something like an axe in its hand tehe is blood everywhere. I try again to make it out of hte window, l feel more hits on my back and legs and hear a thud. I am pulled back into the house, laying on hte floor are chopped up pieces or meat and l realise they are my legs and l cant move anymore apart from my eyes.

The alien thing looks at me spit dripping from its mouth as it shouts you will pay for that and it starts hacking l would normally wake up at this point and make sure l did not fall back to sleep again..

No wonmder l ended up with screwy sleep patterns...:-2

I am most afraid of the dark....We just talked about this in our social meeting at the hospital...A lot of people are afraid of death...Not me..I hope to die with my eyes wide open for I will not be afraid till my eyes close and by then I hope that the peacefulness everyone speaks will have found me!........and I do have nightmares but only of the same thing--over and over again....I hate the dark...........unless someone is next to me!:-6

Blimey Venus that's a scary one. Why do you think you had this particular nightmare?

Hi Mominiowa is it the actual darkness ( being stuck in it) or what could be in the darkness with you that you are afraid of?

I'm usually ok in the dark but I don't like walking in the dark if I can hear someone walking behind me.:-3 :-3 :-3

When I have a nightmare, which is rare, it involves my children being hurt. I had a horrible nightmare about my daughter once that she fell in a body of black water. I dove in after her and I was speeding downward in the water like a bullit. I grabbed her ankle and pulled her towards me and I woke up......screaming. It was a horrible dream. I have NEVER taken her near dark water since.

Since? Did you ever swim in black water before? I don't remember ever seeing black water except when I've been painting or in a film once I think it was the crypt keeper.

About 20 miles from where I grew up there is a lake called Herrington Lake. It is the blackest water I've ever seen. I've only been there a couple of times in my life so I don't know if that had any bearing on my dream or not. Anywho, just sharing my dream with ya's.
