Have you ever run out of Gas?

Some years ago, I used to have a 1963 beautiful vett. When I first got this beauty, I thought it was getting excellent gas milage. As the gas gague hardly moved off of the "full" line. After going a couple hundred miles, the gas gague still read 3/4 full, when all of a sudden the car stopped running right in the middle of the Highway. I pulled off to the side shoulder of the road. Low & behold after checking everything that could have made it stop, it turned out to be that this beauty had just ran out of gas! The gas gauge was malfunctioning, it read 3/4 full, but the tank was empty!!! Luckily the Police came by about 1/2 hour later and radioed for AAA truck with a gas can. Replaced gauge and never ran out of gas again. :guitarist

I have run out of car maybe 3 times. I don't know why, but I wait until the gas needle gets right above the E and even then, I think "this much will get me here" I'm an extremely busy person and maybe thats why I don't get around to putting gas in my car all the time. I fill it up, and it's gone in a few days and then I'm rushing to get somewhere; therefore not having time to put it in my car...sorry excuse!

I have never run out of gas.. My dad taught us to never let the tank go below 1/4 full..!! You know he was a genius..

I have been in many friends car's when they run out of gas, thank god I have AAA.

Triple A is the best-spent money in America. that, and sea tow, the AAA of the ocean. i never let my tank get below half full. and if you let it get to E you will have sediments which can cause problems. BUT, i did lock keys in car once...with engine running! :-5 pretty embarrassing when it's a police car!

LC, I thought you guys were trained to get into locked cars "without" damaging them? :-2 (Agree 100% with you on AAA, & Sea Tow. Used both several times)

yeah...i am trained to shoot the lock! (just kidding).... i always have spare key on gunbelt.

Carla.....that is so funny. I never run out of gas either. I get it filled at 1/4 tank too. I'm alway's afraid there might be an emergency and I will need to have gas in the car.

Edited to add I also have AAA. and because of that, when I was getting new computer glasses they gave me $20 off the price of the lenses because I belonged to AAA. How cool was that?

I've never run out of gas, but an ex of mine made it into an artform. Literally once a month he would run out. I believe it was a combination of stupidity and cockiness. He was one of those guys who believed his car would never run out simply because his schedule was SO important, things like that wouldn't happen to HIM. Heaven forbid. What's the old saying?? Ah yes, "Repeating the same mistake over and over and expecting a different result is a sure sign of insanity." Someone is on to something there.

Yes--only once--several years ago. My car died only eight feet from the pump and a couple of kind gentlemen helped me push it to the pump. I had a little black Fiero at the time.

More than once for more than 1 different reason. Gauges, forgetfulness, bad math are only a few.

Not when I drive my car...but my ex husband used to drive me crazy when I was in his car.....he would drive on "e" with the warning light on!

I used to say..."There's a gas station, honey" and he would pass it and tell me we have enough to get us where we're going..uggghhhh. Or he would get on the highway on "e" going from the west end to the east end!

He only called me once when he ran out of gas.....hahaha But I did see towtrucks on his visa bill a couple more times...hehehe he never did learn. My son was commenting to me that he hates when Dad does that.

When I'm travelling long distances and I'm at 1/2 tank I know the next time I see a station I will fill it up! I would be too paranoid to run out of gas on the highway, especially if I'm travelling with the kids.
