O.K. I confess last year I forgot my wife's birthday, actually it was my mother in law's faulyt for not reminding me in time.

Was she appreciative of the fact that i hadn't noticed her ageing? No she wasn't

This year I remember and get her a present. Does she appreciate it? No! all I get is where's the birthday card, shheesh to quote Andy Capp "home is where you hang your head"

So, just so I understand. You gave her a birthday gift ~ without a card and she asked where the card was?

:(

Thats not very nice, I agree with you.

gmc my friend, at the risk of being crucified by my lovely friends on the forum I have to say it. In some ways women no matter where from are alike ( and the same can be said for men).

My wife tells me every year that she doesn't need me to remember her birthday,

well, the lady tells an untruth.

One time and only once I thought I would surprise her and pretend that I had forgotten. Planned a nice dinner etc for the weekend after her birthday.

I was a fool.

A card, a small gift, anything would have sufficed, but man, did I learn a lesson. Don't even pretend to forget.

My wife doesn't often get loud, never gets abusive, yet, can give me more hell without speaking than anyone outside our marriage could possibly know.

Hang in there your Mrs. will get over it. Although she will probably never forget it.

We are not all alike! :p Forgetting my birthday, he'd die. Forgetting a card, I couldn't care less as long as he remembered my birthday.

My ex husband forgot my very first mothers day. Notice I said 'ex'?

Honestly, I would rather get a poem or heartfelt words for my birthday than a gift that has no special meaning or thought behind it. Remembering occassions shows a woman that you care about her despite our sometimes chaotic lives.

PS quick thinking can get you out of a bind. No card? That's because I wanted to voice my love aloud. "Dear love of my life..."

I said "in many ways women are alike" thank God not in all ways. With ladies as with life variety is the spice. :wah:

It was your mother-in-law's fault!? Have I said enough or do I need to go on?

Koan dear, are you really that easy, or are you slyly trying to trick us men into a painful situation? Trying that line on der wulfess would result in my finishing the sentence with a voice two octaves higher than from where it started.:-3

Actually gmc, I think you did quite well. After 40+ yrs, I have learned that the greatest gift to m'lady, is an excuse to berate you. You must however appear totally shamed and contrite. Never, ever, let them know you've figured this out. :D

I dont think its a "control" thing, i think that women are just more thoughtful than men when it comes to birthdays & special occasions, i personally put a lot of thought into my gifts to my b/f but as its coming up to my birthday guaranteed i'll be asked the question i dread "what d'ya want for your birthday" & i always reply "oh dont bother getting me anything, i dont need anything" but woe betide him if he did!!

I suppose i ought to thank my lucky stars that he remembers at all, i have a terrible memory & have to write special dates down including his b/day!

Would i make a big deal if he forgot my b/day erm.......YES! :-2

Like I say home is where you hang your head. I usually find married guys get the joke, single guys just look puzzled and women just ignore it as usual.

Charlie wrote: I definitly agree with you that women are more thoughtful than men. The thing that irks me is it seems like a one way street. I've known numerous girls who seem complacent, even bored with the (what I felt were) symbolic gestures of affection, such as flowers or an unexpected compliment. Why is it then that random acts of romance go somewhat un-noticed but one tiny slip up, such as a forgotten birthday leads to a catostrophik explosion of anger? Please don't get me wrong here, I love women, but i certainly do not understand them
You're obviously a bit of a romantic & seem to treat your girls with respect thats nice, but lets not forget something Charlie, a birthday happens just ONCE a year!!

I just couldn't resist posting this! Maybe some of you have read it before..should clear up a lot of questions re: What Do Women Want?

Subject: Re: What do women want

Young King Arthur was ambushed and imprisoned by the monarch of a

neighboring kingdom. The monarch could have killed him but was

moved by Arthur's youth and ideals. So, the monarch offered him

his freedom, as long as he could answer a very difficult question.

Arthur would have a year to figure out the answer and, if after a

year, he still had no answer, he would be put to death.

The question?...What do women really want? Such a question would

perplex even the most knowledgeable man, and to young Arthur, it

seemed an impossible query. But, since it was better than death,

he accepted the monarch's proposition to have an answer by year's

end

He returned to his kingdom and began to poll everyone: the

princess, the priests, the wise men and even the court jester. He

spoke with everyone, but no one could give him a satisfactory

answer.

Many people advised him to consult the old witch, for only she

would have the answer.

But the price would be high; as the witch was famous throughout

the kingdom for the exorbitant prices she charged.

The last day of the year arrived and Arthur had no choice but to

talk to the witch. She agreed to answer the question, but he would

have to agree to her price first.

The old witch wanted to marry Sir Lancelot, the most noble of the

Knights of the Round Table and Arthur's closest friend!

Young Arthur was horrified. She was hunchbacked and hideous, had

only one tooth, smelled like sewage, made obscene noises, etc. He

had never encountered such a repugnant creature in all his life.

He refused to force his friend to marry her and endure such a

terrible burden, but Lancelot, learning of the proposal, spoke

with Arthur.

He said nothing was too big of a sacrifice compared to Arthur's

life and the preservation of the Round Table.

Hence, a wedding was proclaimed and the witch answered Arthur's

question thus:

What a woman really wants, she answered....is to be in charge of

her own life.

Everyone in the kingdom instantly knew that the witch had uttered

a great truth and that Arthur's life would be spared.

And so it was, the neighboring monarch granted Arthur his freedom

and Lancelot and the witch had a wonderful wedding.

The honeymoon hour approached and Lancelot, steeling himself for a

horrific experience, entered the bedroom. But, what a sight

awaited him. The most beautiful woman he had ever seen, lay before

him on the bed. The astounded Lancelot asked what had happened.

The beauty replied that since he had been so kind to her when she

appeared as a witch, she would henceforth, be her horrible

deformed self only half the time and the beautiful maiden the

other half.

Which would he prefer? Beautiful during the day...or night?

Lancelot pondered the predicament. During the day, a beautiful

woman to show off to his friends, but at night, in the privacy of

his castle, an old witch? Or, would he prefer having a hideous

witch during the day, but by night, a beautiful woman for him to

enjoy wondrous, intimate moments?

What would YOU do?

What Lancelot chose is below BUT....make YOUR choice before you

scroll down below. OKAY?

Noble Lancelot , remembering the answer to Arthur's question

question, said that he would allow HER to make the choice herself.

Upon hearing this, she announced that she would be beautiful all

the time because he had respected her enough to let her be in

charge of her own life.

Now....what is the moral to this story?

The moral is....

If you don't let a woman have her own way....

Things are going to get ugly. :-6

My wonderful hubby started it all off right! For my first birthday after our marriage he drove me to a field full of horses and asked me if I liked the "paint" that was out in the field. I said "yes" and he said "good, cause he's yours". What a man :-4

Of course the birthdays since then haven't been more horses, but I can't complain :D

Am I lucky or what?

Charlie wrote: haha damn, I have to say after reading that i am most certainly not looking forward to being married. Honestly i don't see what the big deal is, I've had girlfriends forget my birthday and other things of that nature, I find its a great method to getting, "I'm so sorry i forgot your birthday, and so happy your not mad" make up sex. Maybe some of the ladies can enlighten me here, is it truly that big of a deal for a man to forget a birthday? Or is it some sort of game played (and not only by females mind you) to gain control in a relationship?
After looking at your post I had this image in my mind's eye of you laying upon an altar having your heart ripped out of your body. At this point it is only an image. Keep up with your attitude and it will become very real and very uncomfortable for you.

The only excuse for forgetting is a concussion. If you don't have that then head for the hills or couch.

If it was meant to be funny then another smiley might have helped. If it wasn't then I'm sorry you didn't get the humour. If you meant to be offensive it didn't work.

I'm thinking I might get my mother in law some really sticky toffees for mother's day. Her husband and I would probably appreciate a few minutes silence this sunday.
