We just got back from checking out the property the Liberty Riders own up north. What an utter disaster. We pull in to the sight of hollowed out vans and buses, a bunch of trailers scattered here and there, most of which look like something out of "Deliverance."
We go into the bunkhouse which we have to tromp through a few piles of trash and burned-out barbeque pits to get to. Inside, there's 3 really gross looking couches set up end to end in front of a big screen TV.
Upstairs where the bedrooms are? Two single slabs of wood on either wall with a thin mattress and a nasty-looking blanket. Thankfully we brought our own bedding.
I had just come off a 60 hour work week, and I was after a nap. I made my bed, wondering how in the hell Bullet and I were going to fit on this cot-sized bed, and fell asleep. A while later, here comes one of the brothers banging on my door and yelling for me to get my ass downstairs. I do NOT like being woken up this way, and was about to open the door and call him every name under the sun. Luckily Bullet came in and told me to go ahead and go back to sleep, he'd keep the guy away from me.
I slept, and slept, and slept. Through dinner, through the hockey game they watched downstairs and through them leaving to walk down to the clubhouse to party.
Bullet came back around midnight and we managed to arrange ourselves in the tiny bed and sleep. For a while.
About 2:30 the rest of them came back to the bunkhouse whooping and hollering and firing up some smoke. We had the kids with us, and of course, we weren't happy about that. Or about being woken up.
I told Bullet after listening to the screeching for about 5 minutes, "Either you say something, or I do." He said, "How about we get out of here?" I had us packed and ready to go in about 5 minutes and Bullet went and got the kids packed up.
The brother who was the cause of all the trouble walked out with Bullet and I'm sitting there thinking "Don't even come talk to me...don't do it...." and he does anyway. He started off by insulting me, and telling me I was just like his mother. I said "X (I don't want to use his real name) the last thing you want to do right now is insult me. I don't want to talk to you, you are a thoughtless ass, and we're leaving." At which point he starts yelling at me! "This is my brother (referring to Bullet) and you guys ain't leaving here until you tell me how I disrespected you." I looked at Bullet and told him to get us out of there before I said something that both of us would regret.
So, we drove to a motel and slept the rest of the night in peace and quiet. The last thing "X" said to Bullet was "I'm cooking breakfast in the morning, so come on back if you want to." I told him not to hold his breath.
Needless to say, once the president got wind of what happened, "X" and the others involved in partying in the bunkhouse are in deep doo-doo.

Frankly, I'm thinking of spilling the beans and telling everyone we've eloped and not having any ceremony at all. The stress is too much. I'm married, I'm happy, I don't care if we have this fake ceremony or not. Screw the whole thing.

Wow BR...I guess it's good you went and checked the place out. Sorry to hear it wasn't what you expected and now has added more stress to your life. I agree with Mom....it's YOUR DAY...do what will make you happy and alleviate some of the stress. I like your idea of spilling the beans, but still have a party to celebrate your marraige with family and friends. I'm really sorry BR that things just aren't turning out the way you hoped for with June fastly approaching. I'm sure you and Bullet will figure something out and it'll be perfect!

Here's a wild thought, (maybe you have something like this by you) My uncle had his Daughters wedding in a "VFW Hall", last year. Where he rented the place out for the entire day & evening for something like $250 or $275. Then he got a catering place to provide a "Buffet" style meal (at $10/head) for as many people as he needed. There were about 185 people. He hired a DJ with his own equipment for $400, that provided the music for 6 hours. He got beer, wine, & soda (through VFW hall discount) for another $360. It really was suprisingly a great time for all who attended, including mysef & my wife. So the whole 9 yards cost him about $2,885 (Biggest cost was food, you can adjust accordingly) His daughter made more than twice that amount from her wedding gifts, so all were pleased.

maybe aside from seeing that this location wasnt the place for a wedding ceremony... it might have also been an indicator of it being time to join another " Club" or better yet.. time to give thought to starting a club of your own. A club that is both a reflection of your love of riding... and one that embraces an envionrment that feels warm and non confrontational. Just a thought. How nice could that be?

Hey BR you're ridin with liberty riders now uh . they used to have a clubhouse/chapter here in port huron . it was on railroad st. in the old hiball bar. they closed up and moved out when jeff closed walkabout cycles and leathers here in P.H. i don't know if he is still with them , but i think he still has the shop in warren . as far as the property up north , maybe you and bullett can organize a/several fundraisers and spearhead the drive to raise money to make improvements on the place . tow the old vehicles to the junk yards and stuff . lots of spring cleaning . course you'd have to ask the pres. first . he just may really appricate it . partying is 1 thing but smoking around kids is definitely wrong . no matter what life style you live . btw what happened to their web page ? they had one years ago . maybe they need a web master ?
