a young student from my son's college was brutally murdered a couple days ago. in her apartment. she lived in a nice part of town and lived a decent lifestyle as a nursing student. i just found out through the cop grapevine that the killer had posed as a plainclothes cop. i have emailed some advice to his young women friends. if i may offer some advice to the ladies here who live alone....you do NOT have to open your door to ANYONE! ask them their name and ID number through the locked door and call your police dept. to confirm. a real cop will not object! (same with meter-readers, etc.)

god yes Clip...we had a REAL trooper here rape and murder a woman. signal the cop you see them, and go to next well-populated area or cop shop. no fault or charge in that.

Ladies, make sure to keep your doors locked!
I am not a worry wort when it comes to being alone in my house or dealing with weather, etc.
A couple of months ago, I was napping on my couch. My daughter was on the family computer. Suddenly, my front door opened and a young man walked in - talking on his cell phone. He apologized a couple of times and went back out the door!
Needless to say, I now keep the latch on my door.

Always check under, around and inside your car before getting in.....
20 years ago 2 men had a very complex system set up they got to know the womans routine and when they had it down pat, they would syphon out her gas so she had very little, and one man would crawl into her back seat and hide on the floor and the other man would follow behind her. They had it so well planned they knew she would run out of gas on a country road, and when she did they got her. They killed 3 women before they were caught..... The 4th woman was so lucky, she pulled into a gas station (the men miscalculated that one) and back then it was an attendant service kind and the attendant took her credit card, went inside then came back and told her there was something wrong with her card, could she come inside to veryify and she did, and in the gas station they were already on the phone to the police as the attendant spotted the man on the floor of her bar in the back. It was very scarey.
Other things known to happen and I am sure LC has heard it all, when you approach your car, when you are still 10 or more feet away squat down and look underneath, we had an incident where a man would hide under a womans car in the parkade and as soon as she put the key in her lock he had a knife and he slashed her legs and immediately she was down and vulnerable.
Here we used to have a free course called Lady Beware and I wish it was till around it is so necessary for women to be alert and have the confidence to keep out of harms way.

there's been an arrest made in the murder of the young student. the alleged killer is only 17 years old. he was wearing a narco officer ball cap, a tee-shirt that said POLICE and evidently he met her in a popular area for young people, nice restaurants and clubs. it has always burned my butt that any idiot can get pseudo police gear and badges. there needs to be legislation against selling these items:mad: ..... well his young life is over now too.

This comes from personal experience... NEVER go to a walk-up ATM machine in the evening or night ANYWHERE!! I did that in January of 1993. The sun was just going down. I was along a busy street & the ATM machine was facing the street. However, the ATM was secluded by some bushes. I pulled up, got out & left my car running so that my headlights would stay on & shine on me (thought I'd be safer). My daughter, who was 4, almost 5 at the time, was asleep in the car.
Anyway, a car pulled up & a young man jumped out. He came up behind me & stuck a gun in my back & demanded all my money. I tried to reason with him... STUPID!!! If he was the reasoning kind, he wouldn't have been robbing me. I gave him the $10 I'd gotten out, then he made me withdraw the rest. He took my MAC card & ran.
What he didn't realize was that the ATM machine's camera had gotten pictures of him & his brother, who was the driver, had parked under the drive-thru camera! So, it wasn't long til they got them. There was a third guy, who pled guilty... I didn't even know he was there! The gunman was 17 at the time & was tried as an adult & sent to the state prison. He's out now, but I'm pretty sure not rehabbed.
BTW, these three guys did the same thing to another girl the next night. SHE chased after them. I was going to, but figured I'd rather they got my $110 than my daughter's life. They were caught in the end anyway.
Moral of this story is... ALWAYS scope out your surroundings. I ALWAYS carry my car key between my forefinger & middlefinger just in case I ever have to use it. But that wouldn't have helped me then. The police told me I did the right thing. He had that gun cocked & ready to use.
