I think the lyrics on Springsteens album "The Rising" and in particular the title song and "You're Missing", are incredible and deeply moving. The whole theme of 9/11 and ascension is a master class in songwriting without being tacky or over sentimental. Even stripped of the music, this offering would stand alone as poetry and have some relevance

The Turtles 1967 1968 Im at a fraternity party in someones basement. People were making out everywhere... someone put vodka in the punch, A really cute impossibly collegiate guy liked me.. I had my eye on a future criminal of America. He was so sexy! The clean cut nice guy ( who wound up having an incredibly nice life) got angry, and took me home. The FCofA walked me home from school a few times, and eventually went to prison a few times.. I LOVE THAT SONG!!

Also... Emerson,Lake and Palmer... From the beginning

" Maybe I might have changed, and not been so cruel...

How could I have been such a fool?

Whatever is done is done..

I just cant recall.. it doesnt matter at all

I always liked these... Sugar Magnolia seemed like such a neat lady!

(The Grateful Dead)

Sugar magnolia, blossoms blooming, heads all empty and I don’t care,

Saw my baby down by the river, knew she’d have to come up soon for air.

Sweet blossom come on, under the willow, we can have high times if you’ll abide

We can discover the wonders of nature, rolling in the rushes down by the riverside.

She’s got everything delightful, she’s got everything I need,

Takes the wheel when I’m seeing double, pays my ticket when I speed

She comes skimmin’ through rays of violet, she can wade in a drop of dew,

She don’t come and I don’t follow, waits backstage while I sing to you.

Well, she can dance a cajun rhythm, jump like a willys in four wheel drive.

She’s a summer love for spring, fall and winter. she can make happy any man alive.

Sugar magnolia, ringing that bluebell, caught up in sunlight, come on out singing

I’ll walk you in the sunshine, come on honey, come along with me.

She’s got everything delightful, she’s got everything I need,

A breeze in the pines and the sun and bright moonlight, lazing in the sunshine yes

Indeed.

Sometimes when the cuckoo’s crying, when the moon is half way down,

Sometimes when the night is dying, I take me out and I wander around, I wander

’round.

Sunshine, daydream, walking in the tall trees, going where the wind goes

Blooming like a red rose, breathing more freely,

Ride our singin’, I’ll walk you in the morning sunshine

Sunshine, daydream. sunshine, daydream. walking in the sunshine.

What about Tom Lehrer's 'Masochism Tango'

I ache for the touch of your lips, dear,

But much more for the touch of your whips, dear.

You can raise welts like nobody else,

As we dance to the Masochism Tango.

Let our love be a flame, not an ember,

Say it's me that you want to dismember.

Blacken my eye, set fire to my tie,

As we dance to the Masochism Tango.

At your command before you here I stand,

My heart is in my hand ....Eech! ...

It's here that I must be.

My heart entreats, just hear those savage beats,

And go put on your cleats and come and trample me.

Your heart is hard as stone or mahogany,

That's why I'm in such exquisite agony.

My soul is on fire, it's aflame with desire,

Which is why I perspire when we tango.

You caught my nose in your left castanet, love,

I can feel the pain yet, love,

Ev'ry time I hear drums.

And I envy the rose that you held in your teeth, love,

With the thorns underneath, love, sticking into your gums.

Your eyes cast a spell that bewitches.

The last time I needed twenty stitches

To sew up the gash that you made with your lash,

As we danced to the Masochism Tango.

Bash in my brain, and make me scream with pain,

Then kick me once again, and say we'll never part.

I know too well I'm underneath your spell,

so, Darling, if you smell something burning, it's my heart...

Excuse me!

Take your cigarette from its holder,

And burn your initials in my shoulder.

Fracture my spine, and swear that you're mine,

As we dance to the Masochism Tango.

I always have music going on in my head. Never one particular song; I guess it depends on the station. Sometimes I turn the volume way up to drown out the voices. It gets embarassing when I have guests because some of the voices are rude. All that noise, and the cursing, all while trying to make the visit pleasant. It's enough to drive a person crazy. :-2

This is one of my favorites of all time:

CCR - Green River

Well, take me back down where cool water flows, yeah.

Let me remember things I love,

Stoppin' at the log where catfish bite,

Walkin' along the river road at night,

Barefoot girls dancin' in the moonlight.

I can hear the bullfrog callin' me.

Wonder if my rope's still hangin' to the tree.

Love to kick my feet 'way down the shallow water.

Shoefly, dragonfly, get back t'your mother.

Pick up a flat rock, skip it across Green River.

Welllllll!

Up at Cody's camp I spent my days, oh,

With flat car riders and cross-tie walkers

. Old Cody, Junior took me over,

Said, "You're gonna find the world is smould'rin'.

And if you get lost, come on home to Green River."

Welllllll!

Come on home.

Here's my favourite by.....well you know

Copperline (Price/Taylor)

Even the old folks never knew why they call it like they do.

I was wondering since the age of two, down on Copperline.

Copper head, copper beech, copper kettles sitting side by each.

Copper coil, cup o'Georgia peach, down on Copperline.

Half a mile down to Morgan Creek, leaning heavy on the end of the week.

Hercules and a hog-nosed snake, down on Copperline we were down on Copperline.

One Summer night on the Copperline, slip away past supper time.

Wood smoke and new moonshine, down on Copperline.

One time I saw my daddy dance, watched him moving like a man in a trance.

He bought it back from the war in France, down onto Copperline.

Branch water and tomato wine, creosote and turpentine,

sour mash and new moon shine, down on Copperline, down on Copperline.

First kiss ever I took, like a page from a romance book,

the sky opened and the earth shook, down on Copperline, down on Copperline.

Took a fall from a windy height, I only knew how to hold on tight

and pray for love enough to last all night, down on Copperline.

Day breaks and the boys wakes up and the dog barks and the birds sings

and the sap rises and the angels sigh, yeah.

I tried to go back, as if I could, all spec house and plywood.

Tore up and tore up good down on Copperline.

It doesn't come as a surprise to me, it doesn't touch my memory

and I'm lifting up and rising free down on over Copperline.

Half a mile down to Morgan Creek, I'm only living for the end of the week.

Hercules and a hog-nosed snake, down on Copperline, yeah, take me down on Copperline.

Oh, down on Copperline, take me down on Copperline.

I love these:

Stars shining bright above you

Night breezes seem to whisper "i love you"

Birds singin’ in the sycamore trees

Dream a little dream of me

Say nighty-night and kiss me

Just hold me tight and tell me you’ll miss me

While I’m alone and blue as can be

Dream a little dream of me

Stars fading but I linger on dear

Still craving your kiss

I’m longin’ to linger till dawn dear

Just saying this

Sweet dreams till sunbeams find you

Sweet dreams that leave all worries behind you

But in your dreams whatever they be

Dream a little dream of me

Stars shining up above you

Night breezes seem to whisper "i love you"

Birds singin’ in the sycamore trees

Dream a little dream of me

Sweet dreams till sunbeams find you

Sweet dreams that leave all worries behind you

But in your dreams whatever they be

Dream a little dream of me

Yes, dream a little dream of me

Those iPods are pretty cool! I just picked up an MP3 player. It doesn't have as nice a menu as the iPods, but it's alright. I've never heard of the "Raggle Taggle Gypsies." Is that an Australian band?

I got to thinking about the song "Green River." I used to listen to the album back in the 70s, cruising up and down Main St. with my buddies in my '68 Camaro convertable, drinking beer and trying to avoid the cops... :wah:

Benjamin - I'm already addicted to my iPod. It and me are welded, wedded... back off world! Pam has music and will dance, sing raucously and generally act with total attitooooood.. Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...

Pam manically picks up a rose, clenches it in her teeth and executes a few flamenco steps which transmogrify themselves into a good Appalachian step dance then it's Irish jig time and finally a crazy Italian tarantella to the tune of Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport.

Actually I did a dance like that once in the hallowed ivyclad corridors of an august Aussie medical research institution (which has never been the same since). Somebody's secretary witnessed this aberration and said to me "Dignity, Pamela - you don't know the meaning of the word". I was desolate at the time, tried to mend my ways, but it didn't bloody work.

But I digress... The raggle taggle gypsies aren't a band, as far as I know. They were the mythological group that every well bred lady in someone's castle ended up running off with and leading a mad, crazy, dancing life... blissfully getting great sex and arthritis by sleeping on the cold moor wrapped in the tartan kilt of someone maritally unsuitable but devastatinglsy attractive.

You sound equally mad bad and dangerous to know.. grin. Don't let LC hear about your flagrant flaunting of civic authority... grin. There ain't no statute of limitations in the FG......

Loved Amy Grant when she shifted to mainstream

This was the song that made me sit up and take notice

LEAD ME ON

Shoulder to the wheel

For someone else’s selfish gain

Here there is no choosing

Working the clay

Wearing their anger like a ball and chain.

Fire in the field

Underneath a blazing sun

But soon the sun was faded

And freedom was a song

I heard them singing when the day was done

Singing to the holy one.

Lead me on

Lead me on

To a place where the river runs

Into your keeping, oh.

Lead me on

Lead me on

The awaited deliverance

Comforts the seeking...lead on.

Waiting for the train

Labelled with a golden star

Heavy hearted boarding

Whispers in the dark

Where are we going--is it very far?

Bitter cold terrain

Echoes of a slamming door

In chambers made for sleeping, forever

Voices like thunder in a mighty roar

Cry to the lord.

Lead me on

Lead me on

To a place where the river runs

Into your keeping, oh.

Lead me on

Lead me on

The awaited deliverance

Comforts the seeking...lead on.

Man hurts man

Time and time, time again

And we drown in the wake of our power

Somebody tell me why.

Lead me on

Lead me on

To a place where the river runs

Into your keeping, oh.

Lead me on

Lead me on

The awaited deliverance

Comforts the seeking...lead on.

One of my all time favorite songs... dont know why.. just is:

Led Zeppelin- Fool in the Rain

(Jones/Page/Plant)

Oh, baby

Well there's a light in your eye that keeps shining

Like a star that can't wait for a night

I hate to think I've been blinded baby

Why can't I see you tonight

And the warmth of your smile starts a-burnin'

And the thrill of your touch gives me fright

And I'm shaking so much, really yearning

Why don't you show up, make it all right, yeah, it's all right, all right

And if you promised you'd love so completely

And you said you would always be true

You swore that you never would leave me, baby

What ever happened to you

And you thought it was only in movies

As you wish all your dreams would come true, hey

It ain't the first time believe me, baby

I'm standin' here feeling blue, blue

Ha, yeah, I'm blue, hoh, baby

Now I will stand in the rain on the corner

I'll watch the people go shuffling downtown

Another ten minutes no longer

And then I'm turning around, 'round

The clock on the wall's moving slower

Oh, my heart it sinks to the ground

And the storm that I thought would blow over

Clouds the light of the love that I found, found

Light of the love that I found

Light of the love that I found

Ohhhh, that I found

Hey babe

Oooh, hand that ticks on the clock

Just don't seem to stop

When I'm thinking it over

Oooh, tired of the light

I just don't seem to find

Have you wait, get away

Whoa oooh, I see it in my dreams

But I just don't seem to be with you

You I gotta get it all

Gotta get it all, gotta get it all

I've got to get all

(Guitar Solo)

Ooh, now my body is starting to quiver

And the palms of my hands getting wet, ohh

I've got no reason to doubt you baby

It's all a terrible mess

An' I'll run in the rain till I'm breathless

When I'm breathless I'll run till I drop, hey

The thoughts of a fool's kind of careless

I'm just a fool waiting on the wrong block, ohhhhhh yeah

Hey now, ohhhhhh-hoh

Light of the love that I found

Light of the love that I found

Light of the love that I

Light of the love that I found

Light of the love, hey now

Light of the love, hey now

Light of the love that I found

Light of the love that I found

AND- Metallica- Until it Sleeps

Where do I take this pain of mine

I run but it stays right by my side

So tear me open, pour me out

The things inside that scream and shout

And the pain still hates me, so hold me until it sleeps

Just like a curse, just like a stray

You feed it once and now it stays

How it stays

2-So tear me open, but beware

The things inside without a care

And the dirt still stains me

So wash me until I'm clean

1-It grips you solely, it stains you solely

It hates you solely, it holds you solely

Until it sleeps...

So tell me why you've choosen me

Don't want your grip, don't want your greed

Don't want it

Tear me open, make you gone, no more can you hurt anyone

And the fear still shakes me, so hold me until it sleeps

(repeat 1)

I don't want it...NO

(rpt 2)

Tear me open, make you gone

No longer will you hurt anyone

And the hate still shakes me, so hold me up

until it sleeps

Until it sleeps...

I love Ian Durys work.

Great music and the rare gift of making you smile when you sing along.

Not your traditional boy meets girl themes for this guy though :D

This Is What We Find

by Ian Dury & The Blockheads

(spoken)

Morning Reg, meat and two veg? He done him with a ten-pound sledge, he done himself a favour Crash!

Forty-year old housewife Mrs Elizabeth Walk of Lambeth Walk

Had a husband who was jubblified with only half a stalk

So she had a Milk of Magnesia and curry powder sandwich, half a pound of uncut pork

Took an overdose of Omo, this made the neighbours talk

(spoken)

Could have been watching Frankie Vaughn on the telly and giving herself a scratch

(Chorus)

This is what we find (x 4)

A sense of humour is required, amongst the bacon rind

(spoken)

Hello Brian, wash and iron? Try it on, it's only nylon

Single batchelor with little dog Tony Green of Turnham Green

Said 'who's a clever boy then girl, now you know whom I mean'

For the mongrel laid a cable in the sandpit of the playground of the park where they had been

And with a bit of tissue, he wiped its bumhole clean

(spoken)

A bit of claggy on the waggy

(Chorus)

This is what we find (x4)

They must have had a funny time, on the Golden Hind

(spoken, reverb)

O vanitas vanitatum, which of us is happy in his life

Which of us has our desire, or having it, is gratified

(spoken)

Hello Mrs Wood, this boy looks familiar, they used to call him Robin Hood.

Now he's Robin ******* **** ****

Home improvement expert Harold Hill of Harold Hill

Of Do-It-Yourself dexterity, and double glazing skill

Came home to find another gentleman's kippers in the grill

So he sanded off his winkle with his Black and Decker drill

(Chorus)

This is what we find (x4)

The hope that springs eternal, springs right up your behind!

This is what we find (repeat to fade)

I've been going out with a girl

Her name is Julie

But last night she said to me

when we were watching telly

(this is what she said)

She said listen John I love you

But there's this bloke I fancy

I dont want to two time you

So its the end for you and me

Who's this bloke I asked her

Goooooordon, she replied

Not THAT poof, I said dismayed

yes but he's no poof she cried - he's more a man than you'll ever be

Here we go, two three four

I was so upset that I cried all the way to the chip shop

When I came out there was Gordon standing at the bus stop

And guess who was with him

Yeah, Julie, and they were both laughing at me

oh, she is cruel and heartless

to pack me for Gordon

Just cos he's better looking than me

just cos he's cool and trendy

but I know he's a moron, Gordon is a moron

Gordon is a moron, Gordon is a moron

Here we go, two three four

she's a slut, and he's a creep

she's a tart, he's very cheap...

"She came to me one morning" has to be one - but not for the more obvious reasons :-

Lady in Black Ken Hensley - Uriah Heap

She came to me one morning

One lonely sunday morning

Her long hair flowing

In the midwinter wind

I know not how she found me

For in darkness I was walking

And destruction lay around me

From a fight I could not win

Ah ah ah ...

She asked me name my phobias

I said the need within some men

To fight and kill their brothers

Without thought of love or god

And I begged her give me horses

To trample down my enemies

So eager was my passion

To devour this waste of life

Ah ah ah ...

But she wouldn’t think of battle that

Reduces men to animals

So easy to begin

And yet impossible to end

For she’s the mother of our men

Who counselled me so wisely then

I feared to walk alone again

And asked if she would stay

Ah ah ah ...

Oh lady lend your hand I cried

And let me rest here at your side

Have faith and trust

In me she said

And filled my heart with pride

There is no strength in numbers

Have no such misconception

But when you need me

Be assured I won’t be far away

Ah ah ah ...

Thus having spoke she turned away

And though I found no words to say

I stood and watched until I saw

Her black coat disappear

My labour is no easier

But now I know I’m not alone

I find new heart each time

I think upon that windy day

And if one day she comes to you

Drink deeply from her words so wise

Take courage from her azure prize

And say hello from me

Ah ah ah ...

My personal favorite for now and the forseeable future:

Courtesy Of The Red, White And Blue (The Angry American)

(Toby Keith)

American girls and American guys

We'll always stand up and salute We'll always recongnize

When we see Old Glory flying there's alot of men dead

So we can sleep in peace at night when we lay down our head

My daddy served in the Army when he lost his right eye

But he flew a flag out in our yard till the day that he died

He wanted my mother, my brother, my sister, and me

To grow up and live happy in the land of the free

Now this nation that I love has fallen under attack

A mighty sucker punch came flying in from somewhere in the back

Soon as we could see clearly through our big, black eye

Man,we lit up your world like the 4th of July

Uncle Sam put your name at the top of his list

And the Statue of Liberty started shaking her fist

And the eagle will fly and its gonna be hell

When you hear Mother Freedom start ringing her bell

And it'll feel like the whole wide world is raining down on you

Brought to you courtesy of the red, white, and blue

Justice will be served and the battle will rage

This big dog will fight when you rattle his cage

You'll be sorry that you messed with the US of A

Cause we'll put a boot in your ass it's the American way

Uncle Sam put your name at the top of his list

And the Statue of Liberty started shaking her fist

And the eagle will fly and its gonna be hell

When you hear Mother Freedom start ringing her bell

And it'll feel like the whole wide world is raining down on you

Brought to you courtesy of the red, white, and blue

Ohhh

Of the red, white, and blue Ohhh

Stranger In Town: Clive James.

I never will remember how that stranger came to town

He walked in without a swagger, got a job and settled down

The place would have seemed the same without him

And now I can't recall a thing about him

He didn't wear a poncho or a gun with a filed sight

And he wasn't passing through like a freight-train in the night

He rarely wore a stetson with a shadowy big brim

And I still can't be sure if he was him

From Kansas to Wyoming, from Contention to Cheyenne

His name meant less than nothing and it didn't scare a man

So folks didn't worship him or fear him

And I can't remember ever going near him

He didn't tote a shotgun with the barrels both sawn off

So people didn't hit the deck or dive behind a trough

He walked the street in silence ignored on every side

And it's doubtful if he could even ride

I never could remember how that stranger met his death

He was absolutely senile, and with his dying breath

He forgot to ask his womenfolk to kiss him

And afterwards they didn't even miss him

Gonna take a Sentimental Journey,

Gonna set my heart at ease.

Gonna make a Sentimental Journey,

to renew old memories.

Got my bags, got my reservations,

Spent each dime I could afford.

Like a child in wild anticipation,

I Long to hear that, "All aboard!"

Seven...that's the time we leave at seven.

I'll be waitin' up at heaven,

Countin' every mile of railroad

track, that takes me back.

Never thought my heart could be so yearny.

Why did I decide to roam?

Gotta take that Sentimental Journey,

Sentimental Journey home.

Sentimental Journey.

"Idiot Wind" by Dylan.

Someone's got it in for me, they're planting stories in the press

Whoever it is I wish they'd cut it out but when they will I can only guess.

They say I shot a man named Gray and took his wife to Italy,

She inherited a million bucks and when she died it came to me.

I can't help it if I'm lucky.

People see me all the time and they just can't remember how to act

Their minds are filled with big ideas, images and distorted facts.

Even you, yesterday you had to ask me where it was at,

I couldn't believe after all these years, you didn't know me better than that

Sweet lady.

Idiot wind, blowing every time you move your mouth,

Blowing down the backroads headin' south.

Idiot wind, blowing every time you move your teeth,

You're an idiot, babe.

It's a wonder that you still know how to breathe.

I ran into the fortune-teller, who said beware of lightning that might strike

I haven't known peace and quiet for so long I can't remember what it's like.

There's a lone soldier on the cross, smoke pourin' out of a boxcar door,

You didn't know it, you didn't think it could be done, in the final end he won the wars

After losin' every battle.

I woke up on the roadside, daydreamin' 'bout the way things sometimes are

Visions of your chestnut mare shoot through my head and are makin' me see stars.

You hurt the ones that I love best and cover up the truth with lies.

One day you'll be in the ditch, flies buzzin' around your eyes,

Blood on your saddle.

Idiot wind, blowing through the flowers on your tomb,

Blowing through the curtains in your room.

Idiot wind, blowing every time you move your teeth,

You're an idiot, babe.

It's a wonder that you still know how to breathe.

It was gravity which pulled us down and destiny which broke us apart

You tamed the lion in my cage but it just wasn't enough to change my heart.

Now everything's a little upside down, as a matter of fact the wheels have stopped,

What's good is bad, what's bad is good, you'll find out when you reach the top

You're on the bottom.

I noticed at the ceremony, your corrupt ways had finally made you blind

I can't remember your face anymore, your mouth has changed, your eyes

don't look into mine.

The priest wore black on the seventh day and sat stone-faced while the building

burned.

I waited for you on the running boards, near the cypress trees, while the springtime

turned Slowly into autumn.

Idiot wind, blowing like a circle around my skull,

From the Grand Coulee Dam to the Capitol.

Idiot wind, blowing every time you move your teeth,

You're an idiot, babe.

It's a wonder that you still know how to breathe.

I can't feel you anymore, I can't even touch the books you've read

Every time I crawl past your door, I been wishin' I was somebody else instead.

Down the highway, down the tracks, down the road to ecstasy,

I followed you beneath the stars, hounded by your memory

And all your ragin' glory.

I been double-crossed now for the very last time and now I'm finally free,

I kissed goodbye the howling beast on the borderline which separated you from me.

You'll never know the hurt I suffered nor the pain I rise above,

And I'll never know the same about you, your holiness or your kind of love,

And it makes me feel so sorry.

Idiot wind, blowing through the buttons of our coats,

Blowing through the letters that we wrote.

Idiot wind, blowing through the dust upon our shelves,

We're idiots, babe.

It's a wonder we can even feed ourselves.

If you have ever had your heart broken, this song will appeal to you.
"We are never so happy, never so unhappy, as we imagine"

Kings and Queens of England, by Vic Gammon.

Now Charles II had eleven bastard children and George III went mad

And Edward VII they thought was Jack the Ripper but Richard III weren't as bad as Shakespeare thought he was

Victoria lay back and thought of England, Charles I lost his head

Well the best thing about those Kings and Queens of England is that most of them are dead.

Singing Rule Britannia, Britannia waives the rules

Kings, Queens, Jacks and Knaves and tyrants, cheats and fools.

Now William III was a protestant and Dutchman and James I was a Scot

And George I spoke nothing else but German, what a mixed-up, inter-bred lot.

And William I was a grasping Norman bastard, believe me, it's no lie.

Well there hasn't been an English king of England since Harold got one in the eye.

Now she was a well-heeled blue-blood Cinderella, him Prince Charming with big ears,

But he has a thing going with the ugly sister so it ended all in tears.

So arise now ye ghosts of old Oliver Cromwell, brave Harrison and Tom Paine.

Won't you rid our land of this monstrous carbuncle and bring sunshine after the reign.

Sorry to interrupt the tennis match, :yh_giggle but I have to post a song from the new David Gilmour CD, "On an Island" Hit me hard, and right between the eyes.

"Take a Breath"

Take a breath

Take a deep breath now

Take a breath

A deep breath now

Take a breath

When you're down is where you find yourself

When you drown there's nothing else

If you're lost you'll need to turn yourself

Then you'll find out that there's no one else

To make the moves that you can do

When you fall from grace your eyes in blue

Your every breath becomes another world

And the far horizon's a living hell

Take a breath

A deep breath now

This kind of love is hard to find

I never got to you by being kind

If I'm the one to throw you overboard

At least I showed you how to swim for shore

When you're down is where you'll know yourself

That if you drown there's nothing else

When you're lost you need to find yourself

Then you'll find that there's no one else
[FONT=Arial Black]I hope you cherish this sweet way of life, and I hope you know that it comes with a price.

Glad you liked it, Sweet. The entire CD is fantastic. If you've ever appreciated Pink Floyd even a little, you would love this CD.

Oh, and Stills and Nash do the vocals on track 2. Pretty cool to hear them in there.

Whatever Happened - Richard Digance.

What ever happened to Teasmaids? Where did Teasmaids go? What ever happened to Teasmaids? No-one seems to know. They're all a bit of a blur to me, 'cause they never ever made you a cup of tea, the bell would ring at a quarter to eight and then I'd get up in a bit of a state. I'd hold the aluminium pot, I'd burn my fingers because it was hot, and then came the water, missed the cup, to clear up the crap I'd have to get up. What ever happened to Teasmaids? Where did Teasmaids go?

What ever happened to eight-track cartridges you fitted inside your car? Seeing as everyone slung them away I wonder where they are. You'd shove them in but they'd slip out, what the hell was that all about? Shops never had what you wanted to get, they always said "It isn't out yet". Frank Sinatra's Greatest Hits, that's all I had and it got on my tits. What ever happened to eight-track cartridges you fitted inside your car?

Different planet altogether, not a chap I saw on stage. The sort of stages I frequent, Master Stilgoe's fastidious nature would keep him well upwind of. The Digance fellow has had a slot on Radio 2 since it was the Light Service, and very occasionally he takes out his guitar and entertains. I've even done seagull impressions for him.

This is by the late Alex Glasgow, who sang it with scathing contempt.

Brother Bob is cleaning out the muck from between his toes,

Prior to a pint and a quiet game of dominoes

At the pub where he knows the landlord won't insist on calling time

'Cause he's bribed the local bobby who will leave his watch behind

La la la la la la la la - How different from the home life of our own dear Queen.

Linda's pulling on her rollon, looking for her tights,

Fastens down her lashes for the disco trail tonight,

Pauses in the kitchen for her mam to say she's chic,

"Mind you take your busfare, pet, in case you shouldn't click"

La la la la la la la la - How different from the nightlife of our own dear Queen.

Dad's going down the riverside to pay his union dues,

Plans to make a fuss tonight if he gets no further news

Of the wage claim put in months ago before yon keel was laid,

The Queen will launch the ship next week and the rise is still not paid

La la la la la la la la - Mind, she works hard for her living, does our own dear Queen.

Mam's just scrubbed the kitchen down, prepares tomorrow's soup,

Next a pile of clothes to iron, the eyelids start to droop.

The telly in the corner spits, the royal face appears,

The commentator whispers that "she looks well for her years"

La la la la la la la la - Yes it must be an awful life to be our own dear Queen.
