http://www.vnunet.com/vnunet/news/21506 ... tion-sales carries the story of a man has put his mother's ashes on an online auction site asking bidders to help scatter them around the world. Glen Beaton, who lives in Inverness, said his mother Margaret had always wanted to travel to the US, Australia and New Zealand. He is auctioning sachets of her remains for 1p on eBay, but said he would not actually collect the money.
It strikes me that he should have gone to ForumGarden and asked us for help. Shall I write to him on his homepage at http://www.geocities.com/glenjbeaton/index.html inviting him over? Would anyone here give him a hand?

What a lovely idea! I see Ebay have pulled the auction and I understand the reason why, but I really hope he succeeds in his quest. Perhaps if he advertised in newspapers, via the web, he might get some response.
Wouldn't it be lovely if everyone who took a bag of ashes, could scatter them in a forest or at the beach or by a monument in their town, then lay a single flower in the area they scattered the ashes, and take a photo of the flower, then send him the photo via email.
He would have a lovely last memory of his mum .....and what a wonderful way to commemorate her memory and fulfil her dreams!

That's friendly enough - I've asked him to look here. Maybe he'll join and talk about it.

I would have helped him out at no charge to anyone but him to get the ashes here. I think EBay has a valid point I just think the man went to the wrong place to carry out his mothers wishes. I think that is an awesome idea for someone to do for a passed love one. So take note guys if you see Jr Minks asking for a show of hands as to who will spread ashes of her mother... hehehe please help her out hehehehehe

Hi
Received your invitation through my Fishing website and could not refuse to come and visit you all.
I would like to let you all know that my Mothers wishes have now been fulfilled and I just cant thank enough all of the beautiful people who responded to my ebay listing.
I am now trying to set up a way doing this act of scattering ashes around the globe for anyone who feels they need it.
Thank you once again
Love Always
Glen & Enaakshee

Hi Glen,
I'm so glad everything has worked out well for you. I think what you're doing is simply wonderful! If you need any help or want to talk or even just chat, come back and see us all.
Oh, and PS, don't forget to keep some ashes for yourself!
(to scatter!)
Oooh, PPS, perhaps someone could scatter some on a plane that does long-haul flights - that way your mum is constantly travelling! Just a thought!
