Well, I'm making a big decision. I'm leaving.

So long all!

I'll miss you LC, and BR, and Chonsi. You take care of yourself, Far. And you too Acc. thanks for the wonderful information on getting published, Minks! I think it will really help!

Don't worry about me, I have another board where I moderate. They desperately need the creative input and they are old, old friends. I've neglected them too much since I came here a year ago.

I must say it's been a wonderful, exciting experience being part of your extended family! We've all been through a lot diring this last year and a half! BR, I expect you and LC to e-mail me with the great news when you win your court case! And please tell Bullet that I have his back all the way. (A new, less painful back and neck, eh?)

Chonsi, You keep those kids in line! I've learned lots from you and my students are the better for all the things you've taught me!

Valerie, When ever I read the title, "Must Love Dogs" I'll think of you.

Abbey, you've really given me direction and growth. As the oldest here, I think other than LC, thanks for beign that wonderful, stable person you always are!

Far! TEN HUT! I hereby pass command to you! AS YOU WERE! SQUAD, DISMISS! You keep these people on the straight and narrow, you hear? You are the soul of plain talk and deceny, I know they will be fine in your hands.

Accountable, sorry buddy. You'll have to be the political "devil's advocate" for me now. But your quick wit and charm will work fine in my stead. (Qualities that I sadly lack.)

Ladycop, I sure wish I had the strength of will to get through these kinds of things like you do. You have weathered everything here, You've been a best friend to me, and more than that. I'll miss you the most! So long, and the best of times to you and Bothwell.

I know I'm forgetting a ton of great people, but my eyes are misting up a bit, so...

Good bye and good luck to everyone! (Yes, you and Snooze too, Clancy. I know you think I'm not nice, but I'm big enough to let it all be water under the bridge...believe it or not, I'll miss both of you too. )

(Jives walks slowly to the jet that is parked on the tarmac, as he climbs to the cockpit, the sun is setting behind the plane.

He looks over his shoulder and waves, but his expression can't be read since he is all shadow now.

He puts on his helmet, and climbs into the cockpit. The canopy closes, the engines begin to wind up.

The jet taxis to the end of the strip, then, with a earth-shaking roar, the jet streaks down the runway, pulls up into a tactical take-off and the blue flame of the engines disappear into the clouds.)

Well, the state of the boards is such that I'm making a big decision. I'm leaving.

When I start getting vicious PM's and I can't even apologize to people without getting slammed and threatened with banning, it's time for me to leave. This is no longer the board I once knew.

Jives, I understand your agnst with this and hope you will stay. Some days posting is hazardess to our health and we should step away from the PC..!!

i've checked my email several times. i have no reports from you regarding harrassing PM's. you were not threatened with banning for the reasons you state. you were threatened with banning for violating our terms of use. if people were sending you harrassing PMs, and you had reported it, they'd have been warned that they were committing a bannable offense too, as doing so is a violation of our terms of use.

but if we dont get any reports, then there's nothing for us to act on.

If you can do as much for the place you're going to as you've done here, you'll still be a valued and respected part of the Internet community, Jives. I'm glad I got back in time to overlap with you again.

As for gangs and factions on FG, I don't see the problem fading. Tom Lehrer's line about "The outpatients are out in force tonight, I see" would make a good epitaph.

If you can manage to keep in touch, to drop in here and post the odd snippet, that would be good. But believe me, a rest from the aggravation can be like a holiday in the sun.

Now Jives, sit down, I have two things to say to you.

There are a handful of people in this place whose posts I love to read. They're meaningful, thoughtful, insightful. YOU are one of these people. You are a foundation stone of this garden. If you disappear the garden may not break but it will be damaged! Your writing is sensitive and intelligent and informative and we all gain from it. Take a little time if you need it, but we're your online class and we need your input too!

Secondly, you're a teacher and you should know by now that you cannot stop bullying by running away from it. You will miss your friends and the bullies will pick on someone else. You know you have to report the bullies! Maybe if they have "timeout" they will realise that they can't treat people this way! Tell Anastrophe about the problems you have had and let him deal with it.

I belong to another web site where there was one chap who could be nice and funny but he could also be incredibly nasty. He would pick on one person at a time and be just unbelievably horrible to them. I think he treated us all badly, one by one, until eventually (after many reprimands) he was banned. Now he's gone its a much nicer site and there's a lot less niggly comments than there used to be.

How would you treat bullies in your school?

Thats all these people are and you're worth 100 times what they are!

I would hate to see you go because of some trivial dispute that should be resolved, you are one of the oldest members here ( I don't mean age ) and it'd be such a shame for things to end like this. Think it over before making any decision.:-4

There seems to have been a misunderstanding. Maybe Jives could make the proper reports and reconsider leaving. It seems almost everyone that posted in this thread holds him in high regard. Why let little arguments get in the way of the big picture. Someone already posted it. Life isn't perfect.

I have just come back from a family funeral. Now I have read your intent, Jives, it would add to my grief to see you go.

I hope you will reconsider, your input lifts a person's spirit and I don't think anyone would be able to fill the void you would leave. And how would we know how you did with the sponsorship.

As you have a responsibility to this other site that you mention, perhaps you could PM me with its URL so that I might pop in on you from time to time. Perhaps, also, you could pop in here and say "Hi". Somehow, I think you would get a very warm seat by the fire if you did.

I took several breaks from FG and found my attitude much better. I have NOT been harassed and have not harassed anyone for well over 6 weeks by PM (about

). Take a step back Jives and look at your own actions - I did. Sometimes the fault lies within ourselves. If you decide to leave - good luck and I tip my hat to you as a fine teacher making a difference in NM. I also tip my hat to you as a person of character.........................NV

Jives your a truly classic guy, you contributed some incredible posts. Your stories and opinions are splendid. You are a one of a kind. I would truly hate to see you leave, and can only ask you consider just one tiny thing from me.....would you let any one of us go in a situation like this.... could you let LC, BR, ACC, Chonsi, Far, or anybody just walk away from FG. We all feel the same. You are a cornerstone to FG someone the majority of us have tremendous respect for and no matter what you do, you have some great friends for as long as you want them. So whatever happens, whatever you decide remember your friends will always be your friends.
