Discrimination against homosexuals

Post by fiberglassvictim »

In 1966 people could get fired from their jobs in 41 states because they were homosexual, it is now the 2000's and that number hasn't changed.

Under Title VII, the ADA, and the ADEA, it is illegal to discriminate in any aspect of employment, including:

hiring and firing;

compensation, assignment, or classification of employees;

transfer, promotion, layoff, or recall;

job advertisements;

recruitment;

testing;

use of company facilities;

training and apprenticeship programs;

fringe benefits;

pay, retirement plans, and disability leave; or

other terms and conditions of employment.

Discriminatory practices under these laws also include:

harassment on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, or age;

retaliation against an individual for filing a charge of discrimination, participating in an investigation, or opposing discriminatory practices;

employment decisions based on stereotypes or assumptions about the abilities, traits, or performance of individuals of a certain sex, race, age, religion, or ethnic group, or individuals with disabilities; and

denying employment opportunities to a person because of marriage to, or association with, an individual of a particular race, religion, national origin, or an individual with a disability. Title VII also prohibits discrimination because of participation in schools or places of worship associated with a particular racial, ethnic, or religious group.

Unfortunatly, these rules only apply to employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. Nothing said about sexual orientation.

Eventually, people will learn that these laws need to include evryone, just like pepole learned that black people are equal to whites, and women are equal to men. When people try and reason against this, I would advise not being angry with them, but try and help them by curing their ignorance and feeling slightly sorry for their ignorant, moronic views.

I believe it is an unstated fact that people cannott be fired based on sexual orientation. However, if someone with the power to hire and fire senses an orientation they do not embrace, or are repulsed by... Im certain their decision would be influenced by this determination. Bear a couple of things in mind. The world being what it is... that decision to hire or fire could also be diredted at someone who is obese, or short, or has bad skin, or tatoos etc. etc... The wriring is on the wall.. The population as a whole will never be forced to accept homosexuals. But bear this in mind... If sexual orientation was kept to ones self...who would know? Why would someone have to go to their place of employment and announce what their sexual prefrences are? Dont argue that that is being cowardly... its being discreet. If I went home to my barn every night and had sexual encounters with my animals, I certainly wouldnt talk about it the next day at work. Or if I wasnt wearing underwear. For that matter I wouldnt talk about heterosexual relations Id had.

Also, what does it have to do specifically with religion? There is a 'Work & Employment' forum here.
