This, right here, these few words....Fletch, you have hit on a subject that has been bothering me about FG for several days now.
Y'all are going to be p!ssed at me, I'm certain, but I gotta say, quantity does not mean quality. I keep seeing new threads about this member has reached 1,000 posts. or that member has reached 5,000 posts, and to be brutally honest, it means next to nothing. A member can pop into any thread, old or new, and say some nonsensical BS just to up their post count and frankly, it's getting on my nerves. Who cares how many posts a person has? It's the quality of the discussion and debate that matters. It's the learning and opening minds that matters. I have somewhere in the vicinity of 4,500 posts, (I think) and I have been here WAY longer than some of the members who have 6 and 7,000. That's because when I have something to say, I think it matters. Not just posting for the sake of upping my count.
So, I'm in a foul mood today and had to bring it up. But it's what I think and believe.
Fletch probably shouldn't have called a member "stupid" right off the cuff like he did, but he does have valid points to make. He just needs to be a bit more diplomatic.
That's my rant for today. Stay tuned, Part 2 will be along shortly.

As we're on the subject, perhaps someone could explain this to me.
Why is it assumed, that a long standing member should be given respect?
I've come across this bone of contention a few tims in my days as a reader.
It seems to be a prison ritual that the longest inmate should be respected?
Why?
Is he not also, just a criminal?
A person is respected on what they say.
It's a case of quality over quantity.
A post should speak for itself and regardless of your number standing.
Peace

Yes, it's a case of quality over quantity, but it's also a case-by-case scenario. While some of the members here simply pad their post count for the sake of a high number, others, with very high post counts actually make a difference and contribute in a wonderful way. You say your post count is low but that you have read a LOT. (Your words, not mine) you should be able to differentiate between the two.

Well there are so many posts to read, but I have made every effort to find out the pecking order or at least the swing of things.
I daresay there are hundreds more who read or have an uber low post copunt as they have seen the pack method of hunting someone down.
You know the bit about defending a friend.
Does it not matter if the friend has said some extremely offensive stuff?
My friends on forums and the real world, would slag me off on the spot for it.
I like to think most people act that way.

Peaceful? I dont think so...
You know, there is a huge difference in saying:
"I dont like the Koran, because it is the document that gives license to the muslum faith to seek jihad. I think its a dangerous book."
And then taking a huge chunk of words and tacking on your own meaning to them as she did in the original post.
That I find stupid.
Why?
Simple.
Because when the extremists do the same thing and give a completely different meaning to a western text, then it is called Propaganda.
Let me further illustrate my point by using the original post
Kuffar/kafir - Any non-Muslim. Seen as legitimate targets
Legitame target? No, it just means non believer & none of this legitimate target rubbish. Even a non worshipping Muslim or even one that is muslim but doesn't pray 5 times a day, can be called a Kafir
Caliphate (khilafa) - the dream of a global Islamic caliphate, enforcing strict Sharia law on all
Caliph is the term or title for the Islamic leader of the Ummah, or community of Islam. Just a title, nothing more. Nothing about dreams of control there my friend.
Halal - Something permitted by Islam (not just food)
In Arabic-speaking countries, the term is used to describe anything permissible under Islamic law, in contrast to haraam, that which is forbidden. The Jewish term is Kosher. Food huh? It's a killer
Haram - Something forbidden by Islam, which included E number food additives
Yeah, that'd be page No hundred and fivety one that says "Thou shalt not consume E numbers". This isn't just a Muslim thing. The Christians have their own tenets to live by.
Jihad - Obligation to fight a holy war against enemies of Islam, including terrorism
Obligation? Jihad means "to exert utmost effort, to strive, struggle", which connotes a wide range of meanings: anything from an inward spiritual struggle to attain perfect faith to a political or militant struggle to defend or further Islam. The Christians had two Jihads of their own in the form of the Crusades. Ambiguous word though huh? You are under no obligation.
Shahid - a martyr for the cause. This would include suicide bombers
Shahid is actually a males name. I pressume she meant Shihad. Shihad is the same as saying suicide bomber but then if I say "Suicide Bomber", I can hardly use it to describe the actions of every IRA member. It's just a term that we have similar versions of in the West
Shaitan (Satan) - the source of all evil. Among those seen as Shaitan were western tourists
Shaitan means the devil. Anything else she says is drivel used to dry and drum up more hatred. You know, the Chinese refer to westerners as Gawi Lo. Round eyed or white devils. Scared of a bombing from Tai-Pei?
Apostates - Leaders of Muslim countries who were seen as betraying Islamic. They included President Mubarak of Egypt
Once again, a reactionary load of rubbish.
Research the word and you'll find it isn;t just an Islamic thing.
Don't believe me? Hey that's cool. I'll provide a link for Christian apostates
http://www.lightplanet.com/mormons/resp ... es_EOM.htm
Dawa - the true faith (akin to spreading the gospel). Abu Hamza was trying to spread his own brand of Islam, if necessary by force
I could also say that million os non-christians were slaughtered by the King of Crusaders attempt to inflict Dawad. Tough cookie this as Dawa is a Tibetan word for moon, month or Monday! If she meant Dawah, then once again a little off track. It is an Arabic term meaning "invite" or "invitation," and is used in Islam to refer to the activity of proselytizing. Dawah is considered to be the Muslim responsibility to "invite" others to Islam. Dawah is often referred to as the act of preaching Islam. It can apply to Muslims and non-Muslims alike. Now tellme, when was the last time a Muslim knocked on your door and offered a gave you a lecture? Me? Never in my life, unlike Christians, Mormons etc
Now there is a huge difference between her own little opinions that she has tacked on, and the truth.
Perhaps if she had cared to research things a little better, I'd have the time of day to show a modicum of respect.
Perhaps if she actually sat down and read the Quran translated, she'd have a better understanding that the extremists have nothing to do with it.
How many people would go out and research the true meanings and how many would bash the ragheads some more huh?
Ignorance is way too easy.
I hope this post helps some.

well all i can say Fletch is you took offense to Ravens post and her opinions then may I suggest you take this up with Raven. I refuse to argue what offended you in any way shape or form as I have experienced both the good and bad sides of the muslim culture and am not into a confrontation. My point of offense was calling her stupid and said she needed a cure.... her views in your opinion were what offended you not her personally..... please take this up with her.
And yes you bet Raven is my friend. I would be upset with anyone who called any of my friends stupid and said they needed a cure. I don't believe FG uses gang up tactics here, good lord Fletch if you want to see gang up tactics a few of us here can tell you all about them from a past forum. FG is a very pleasant forum, we don't slag each other all over the place we converse, debate, joke etc and over all most of us get along well with each other.
next time you want to start up a debate do just that, take it up with the person, share your views, listen to theirs, allow them to respond but don't stoop to name calling right off the start ok.

OK, Fletch, I have tried to give you the benefit of the doubt and even extended a hand in understanding in a PM which was ignored. Now I have to call it like I see it, just as you did. Your comments are condescending and that is one trait (admittedly of several) that I cannot abide. The air of superiority coming from your posts reeks. You preach and prattle and end your posts with a back-handed "Peace" that I don't think even YOU truly believe, You are arguing for something you believe in, is it at all possible for you to do it in a nice way, with a modicum of human kindness and respect? That's one thing that we find important around here: we can disagree, even vociferously, but we are respectful. Give it a shot, you may just find your stay a bit more enjoyable and comfortable. By all means, site your views, give your opinions, help us understand something we may not fully have grasped. Just do it nicely. Period.

MInks, it would be pointless and stalkerish to take an issue up with one person through PM's.
This is a public forum board.
Things are said and arguments are had.
I've put my case across for all to see.
As for offensive, ma'am, if you care to read the red, you'll see just why I find it offensive.
I also find her opinion and those of her ilk offensive as it makes my life 'that' bit harder.
Hatred is not condusive to a peaceful socirty.
While we will never live in Utopia, we have to do our bit.
If there are any Muslims out there reading this, I'd like them to know we are not all the same in forumland and some of us will speak out against a wrong.
It reminds me of something I once heard by Charles Mingus and if you'll allow me:
One day they came and they took the communists,
And I said nothing because I was not a communist.
Then one day they came and they took the people of the Jewish faith,
And I said nothing because I was had no faith left.
One day they came and they took the unionists,
And I said nothing because I was not a unionist.
One day they burned down the Catholic churches.
And I said nothing because I was born a Protestant.
Then one day they came and they took me.
And I could say nothing because I was guilty as they were,
For not speaking out and saying that all men have a right to freedom.
This is a public forum board.

And what have you to say about the "peaceful" Muslims rioting in the streets?

Rider, I got your PM but was busy responding to a post.
I didn't realize there was a sudden urgency to respond.
First time I've been chastised for that.
As for my comments, if you don't like, fair enough.
What strikes me as odd is so far nobody seems to be saying what she posted was rubbish.
This is what I meant by pack mentality on boards.
You find my comments condescending and with an air of superiority?
Yet you don't find anything wrong with her comments?
With that in mind, I really don't have to worry much about what you think of me.
I'd rather be considered as such, than be an ill-educated xenophobe.
I can live with it.

Absolute morons who do their faith no justice.
I spoke to some and it turns out this cartoon was published in September and they had asked time and time again for it to be addressed and sorted.
Nobody listened to their words and they warned that it would get ugly.
Why they were ignored again, suprises me.
Eventually 5 months later, the trouble kicked off.
They had every right to be angry but the placards and banners were disgusting and did them no favours.
A fair few said they had a lot of extemists turn up and hijack events.
That I can believe.
My opinion?
The trouble makers are scum who should **** off and live in the countries they are so violent over.

Now rather than ignore it and bark up another tree, would you care to check it out and pass comment on it or would that be asking too much?

I've seen posts get flamed by you guys for next to nothing.
My calling it rubbish is tame to some of the history of this board.
Anyway, I feel I have said all I can on this matter.
The fact that I don't hear many voices saying what she did was wrong, doesn't suprise me.
The voices saying 'you called her stupid' do.
If that is the big issue here, then feel free to carry that on.
As it stands, I had changed it before I had seen Minks' response.
Her cut & paste has made it legend and a bone to keep chewing on.
Any normal Muslims reading this, I'll apologise for the initial post, it is not indicative of all of us so don't use it as a reason to e-bash non-muslims please!
Peace..no, really!

For all the illusions of being a well-educated man, you have absolutely no social skills. It's not what you say that I have a problem with, it is HOW you say it. Keep on with this "I am better than everyone here" attitude and stop being so paranoid about the supposed "pack mentality" (when in reality where you find yourself is among people who consider each other friends) and like I said, join us mere mortals here on earth. Speak with us, not at us. You're not the only one here with a sharp mind, you know.

Rider, just for you, pack mentality has been discussed many a time here.
I'm not the first tomention it and I wont be the last.
This whole air of superiority?
Nope, wont have that.
Not my bag.
But when it becomes a case of defending one of your own and not seeing the blatant rubbish that was posted, I simply stand against the tide.
It's not about being arrogant for having the balls to say 'this is wrong'.
Like I said earlier, if you Jew bash, everyone will slam you, but it's the vogue to muslim bash.
If the original post was anti-semetic, you know for a fact that the topic would have been laced with choice words.
I'm not actually looking for affirmation by the way, just voicing disgust over a misguided post.
The final line said it all for me.
"Has anyone really READ the koran?"
Clearly, Raven hasn't to have gotten so much wrong.
The threads all yours folks.

Let me clarify what I meant.
Nothingness posts in the sense that a 'lol' here and a 'I agree' there simply add the tally up.
I'm not saying it's good or bad, but simply a case of posts start adding up and that number draws security.
I could have flooded the boards with similar posts to boost my ratio up, but chose not to.
I didn't actually mean anything sinister by the 'nothingness' point.
OK Fletch.... :-6
By the way...you need to clear you 'Inbox'....

Isn't this why you hated "Wicked Moon"?
This whole "Group Mentality" You sound like Jay for crying out loud.....this is the crap they did to you, Raven, Snooze, me.........and now you do it to others.....I can't believe it....

Okay, I skipped the last page of this thread in its entirety because I got bored. I hope I'm not being redundant here.
Fletch, I respect the way you addressed the original post point-by-point. Had you done that from the beginning, I don't think anybody would have had the problem with it, the way they have now. Go figure.
Deep cleansing breath, everybody.
If we followed the Old Testament to the letter, we would be acting just as the extremists are. Our civilization would not exist.

ah geeze fletch i didn't say to PM her, if you have issues with her comments carry on the thread when she comes back to defend her point. You call her down, yet you do not allow her to defend herself..... then you get all short and ticked off at the rest of us cause you continue. I no longer give a rip about your opinions of the world over all and generalizations. It has now gone into the fact that you are just here to spout off your disgust with Ravens post over and over and over. Pity she isn't one of our high counters and isn't here all the time, I am sure then you would get the chance to truly see what she was trying to say...... tis called giving the other person a fair chance. As for our gang mentality keep attacking us and you will get a good dose of how FG supports it's friends on here. If you wish to have a discussion or debate or argue a persons points then give that person a darn chance to respond. An in your face name calling attack has really put the lot of us off.
Peace to you as well

This is a community. Common sense applies. Everyone is welcome to come here and interact. Stroll across the property with a limp, or a skip, or just a slow crawl on your belly. That's all fine. Everyone is allowed to throw a few rocks - and then stop. If you continue throwing rocks, that's when you need to question whether or not you are a good fit here.
Here ya go Fletch straight from admin for you.....
