Yeah i said it! I grew up here and now after 15 years of living elsewhere in the world I have to say it? Are Americans so dumb or does our government just want it so? Well I have three kids and they are learning for the first time that Columbus discoverd America????? coloumbus never got futher than the dominican republic, and he killed more than half the natives with the commen cold! But thats the story ? which one did you hear? Thanksgiving? yeah thanks that they had no guns and we could take all there food? Americans stop believing what they tell you and only what you can prove for yourself but you wont ! because it's easier to just go with the flow than to ask who,what,when,where,why and how. i love my country I hate what my government has become! you buy the presidency you dont earn it.

Yes, the truth about America is always a lot more complicated than the candy coated version you learn from popular culture or are taught in elementary school because a real, in-depth study would have been way over your head. But doing the exact opposite, making America out to be some kind of distopia, is equally simplistic.

I lived in Europe for a while and found that the politics were very similar with the emphisis being on different things then here. That was quite a while ago.

I like the way you think. I have problems with them continuing to teach kids about Columbus when they know its not true. Its been shown that the Vikings were here first. Well not first I guess since the country was first inhabited by prehistoric man and later the native modern man. Europeans walked in maybe. But later on the Vikings. they have found runestones left by them. Lief Ericson.

But they still celebrate Columbus day and teach about him. I think they say he died in prison. I think his brother had a part in that.

Teachers that I know of do not place the discovery of the Americas solely ob Columbus. The original inhabitants of this continent are studied first, Native Americas, then other explorers such as the Vikings and more.

Gosh, we don't even get Columbus Day off of school anymore! I do not know where they celebrate, I haven't seen it as a school holiday in more then a decade.
