crimes and trials
i am absolutely new here and perhaps should not make a request, but are the members here amenable to a crimes/trials forum? for example the scott peterson trial was greatly discussed on another board, but the posters were very rude and insulting on a personal level. i think there is an interest in high profile trials. is there an interest here? thanks!

crimes and trials
I too would love to have a Crime / Trials forum -- I have followed the Laci Peterson Case from almost day one. I second the motion for a crime/trial forum.
"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion."
crimes and trials
I am a big fan of the "Three Strikes Law"and irrespective of the critics who say "yeah, but what about the costs of incarcerating these folks", I say ---"what about the costs of insurance, fear, broken bones and all the attendant costs of crime if released? Besides which, crime has gone down in those states that have the law.

the problem in california is that it's not reserved only for violent crimes. non-violent, 'victimless' crimes can land you three strikes, and that defeats the whole point of the law - to get _violent_ criminals off the streets.
i'm as tough on crime as anyone you'll find. i want violent offenders locked up, and as far as i'm concerned, throw away the key. but i also don't want my tax dollars being wasted providing a lifetime 'cot and three hots' to some idiot who got busted smoking pot in a park a couple of times.

i would agree that three strikes should apply to felonies, not misdemeanors. it was meant to imprison the habitual criminals who knew justice had a revolving door for certain offenses. in florida we have a gun law i like...it is mandated on the judges to sentence accordingly: use a gun, 10 years. fire the gun, 20 years, hit someone with the bullet , life. works for me.

the problem i have with that is the focus on the type of weapon, rather than the crime. if you kill a person with a knife, it's equally as heinous a crime as killing them with a gun. same for baseball bat. or, as in the case of a highschool friend, murdered by her husband by being hit in the head with a frying pan, then choked to death when he later noticed her moving.
he shoudl rot in hell. but of course, he's up for parole.

hello and good to meet you
....i agree, which is why i said three strikes should apply to felonies. any violence of course. but i do like the gun law here because it is too commonly concealed and a threat to LE. (or used in home invasions, robberies etc.) it gives the courts some leverage and clout and supersedes "soft" judges.

Hi lady cop.......absolutely right on! Felonies only! I voted no on the three strikes!
I couldn't believe that it passed! I'd have a real hard time sending someone to jail for life even if they had two prior violent felonies on their record for something as minor as stealing a bicycle or a loaf of bread from a convenience store! How about possession of weed! Come on, I've very conservative but I think this law is ridiculous. This law has major flaws! :-5

anastrophe,
Hi..!! I agree with you 100%. I just get livid when I think how the criminal system is working in this country, mind you I know its the best, but..!! Something is wrong when the criminals are protected, and the public is put at risk..!! :-2
You have criminals who are guilty, and admitted it. Get up on the day of their hearing and plead not guilty..(MARK HACKING FOR ONE, WHO KILLED HIS BEAUTIFUL WIFE LORI HACKING..@@). My god why is he not just locked up forever with no parole period. HE DID IT.. HE SAID HE DID IT.. !! :-5
DON'T GET ME STARTED ON THE O.J. CASE STILL ANGRY ABOUT THAT VERDICT..
We better wake up, and quit handling these criminal with kid gloves. It will come back to haunt us, if it already hasn't..!! I don't care how you took a life, unless self defense. You kill bye bye for life, or death how ever the jury decides.. NO OTHER OPTIONS.. AND NO PAROLE..!!

it doesn't matter how anyone is murdered, they are dead and thats that.
Everyone has these on their face? TULIPS.
