Are there words around, that when you hear people say them you have to stiffle a laugh?
"Shenanigans" is one that does it for me, but I remember my father saying stuff like: Oi' less of your "malarkey" m' boy". ....or when my grandmother used to say: "I cant be bothered with all this, "kerfuffle" ...i' had to leave the room ! ....I couldn't keep a straight face.
....anyone got any words, or phrases that set you off?
When my mum talks about cleaning the house she'll say 'I'm not doing a full clean today I'm just going to......'tittyvate' What the hell does that mean?!
I'm sure that's a word she just plucked out of the air

Much of the youth in todays world likes to respond in conversation with "Monosyllabalic" expressions like "whatever', "cool", "yeah", "dude?", "oh man", "scheesh", "gawd". The foregoing are the more intelligible ones.

Im only as strong as the cocktails I drink. Ok, what word...My mom would say, when she was mad at me and my sister, "This $hit is going to seise (sp?)". We always rolled over laughing. I guess it was her intonation.

I remember a conversation my grandma & my aunt were having once, but not exactly what they were talking about. But I think they were discussing what color to paint a room & my aunt said with a chuckle, "How about titty-pink??" We all burst out laughing!! Aunt Shirl could always make us laugh. Sure do miss her.

Right, I'm going to "tittyvate myself up , by going for a haircut
That's obviously a nationwide word then, cos my mum uses it too! :wah:
We laugh at my daughter's pronunciation. She saw a Schweppes van and reading the writing on it asked "Whats Skew-weppies?"
And she wanted to know what colour was Berry-gundy? (Bergundy)
I totally confused her the other day by explaining that Worcestershire was pronounced 'Woo-sta-shah'! :wah: Poor kid! She's totally confuddled now!

Shut up, Arnold.
I was in a similar meeting once and I said that the bolts that we needed had to be ½" diameter.
I was asked "How long do you want them?"
to which I replied, "I was hoping to keep them"
I noticed that a lot of these posts refer to something said by your Gran. Whenever I had a pee, my Gran always used to say I was "Writing my name" and if I said something daft or amusing I was a "Sloppy Ha'pth" (Half pennyworth)
