Would you boycott a band for their name?

Post by minks »

This bugs me, I really do not like these 2 band's names and based on names I would choose to not listen to their music....

The Killers

The Slaves

I like the music by "The Killers"

I dislike the music by "The Slaves"

Do names matter to you? Would you now listen to a band because of their name?

I am torn.

I don't really like the name Godsmack but I love their music. But I don't really let band names sway my taste in music. If I hear a song and like it, I don't care who the band is.

Oh, my answer is yes. They played The Killers on the speaker at school, and I wrote to the principal to say it was inappropriate for a school setting.

Real Names Of Real Bands :

Dead Kennedys

Battered Wives

Teenage Jesus & The Jerks

bunchof**kingoofs

Me, Mom & Morgentaler (will need some 'splainin' for non-Canadians)

Nipple Erectors

The Barenaked Ladies were banned from a public New Year's Eve celebration in Toronto about ten years ago, because the anal retentive types on City Council said the name "objectifies women".

They responded by releasing a hit album, and going on to fame and fortune. Now, they are a Toronto institution.

"What's in a name? A rose by any other name would smell as sweet..."

Nah...can't see boycotting a band strictly because of the name. The music, however, is a different story. Until I heard Insane Clwn Posse, I thought the name was hysterical.

I dont think i would, if i like the music then that's all that matters. Its not something ive ever really thought about before. Need to go have a look at my cd's, see if there's any controversial names there :-3

Are you serious!? What song were they playing? Because unless it was an offensive song, I don't think you were at all justified doing that.

My response to the original question is a resounding NO! It's the music that matters, who cares what the band decide to call themselves? The Killers rule! The Butthole Surfers, not the best name in the world, but a great band. Machine Gun Fellatio; again, not a great name, but a pretty good band anyway.

PS - I'm new here, so if everyone could not all jump on me at once, I'd appreciate it :-3

Thanks :) I can't tell you how many times I've been insulted on different forums for saying what I think. I hope no-one has taken what I said as me attacking chonsigirl, I certainly didn't mean it that way. So again, thanks for the welcome, hopefully I'll be around for a while :D
