Would you be willing to kill a cow at a slaughterhouse? Do you eat meat?

Yes, I do eat meat. My husband goes deer hunting every year and we thoroughly enjoy the fresh meat he brings home. But to go to a slaughterhouse and kill it? I don't think I could. I think at least when you kill for meat, there's the chance you might miss. It's more of a chance you give the animal, than when you pen them up and club their brains out.

Not a whole lot of fun either way, seeing as how hunting is so much more thrilling....

I love meat. I am not satisfied with fish and or chicken. It's gotta be meat.

HOWEVER, if it was me that had to kill and clean it, I'd be a very thin vegetarian.

I love meat, fish & chicken and would kill all if nothing better to do, otherwise someone else could do it.

I'll stick with the veggies, I rarely eat meat and wouldn't miss it in my diet.

I have helped kill and butcher various types of meat for the table.

(And cut and wrap it for the freezer)

The only reason for me not to do it at the slaughter house itself would

be because the cattle there are scared, and give off all kinds of things

(adrenalin) into their meat, and I don't want to eat that. (Although of

course the meat I buy at the grocery store certainly has it now) But when

my family was able, we butchered beef one at a time. Much better.

And a couple of times when we had horses die, we called the local zoo,

and that meat went to the lions and other animals. It was sad, but it

made me feel good to think it was used instead of wasted.

Not cool to have your horse die, but to know it is being put to good use, that's kinda neat. I'm sure the lions appreciated it!

I went to a slaughter house once.....and the scene still haunts me. The whole thing terrifies me, however I do eat meat. Steak is my favorite. Medium rare. But now thinking about the kill....makes me queasy. I love animals. I actually can't believe I eat meat. I could live on noodles and be just fine!

I've been to slaughterhouse...yea turned my stomach to see the butchering. I still eat meat though.

Smooth or crunchy ? I'm partial to crunchy.

I've found a brand that consists of nothing but ground peanuts. No salt, no oil, no sugar, no preservatives, no hydrogenation...

Most of the popular brands (and all of the cheap brands) are full of icing sugar. They taste pretty bad after you've had the pure stuff.

It's a store brand : President's Choice Blue Menu "Just Peanuts" peanut butter.

It's a Loblaws supermarket brand, and it's sold in Canada through Loblaws, Zehrs, and No Frills supermarkets. I don't think you have those stores in the USA.

I think Loblaws owns Wegman's Supermarkets. I know I see ads on the Rochester, NY TV stations for Wegman's, but I don't know if that's a national chain in the US .

I'm pretty sure I've heard "President's Choice" products mentioned in those Rochester ads.

They do make it in a smooth version.

When you open a fresh jar, the natural peanut oil is floating on the surface. This is because the oil isn't hydrogenated, which is a very good thing for your heart.

You stir the oil into the peanutty part, then store it in the refrigerator so it doesn't pool up again.

A little googling tells me that Wegman's is owned by Loblaws, and that they operate in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia and Maryland.

I've participated in slaughtering a 300+ pound hog and had a great time that night at the party. Fresh uncured ham is :yh_drool

The two cows I remember from my childhood were Tiny and Star. Tiny was a 4H champion that my older siblings teased too much. I was scared to death of her!

Star was delicious!

I suppose if I had to in order to feed my family, I could do it. I don't even know how to gut a fish (and really have no desire to learn) and would have to learn how to kill and dress whatever it was.

And yes, we eat meat daily.

My Aunt used to have chickens and my brother spent most of his summers at her house. He was shocked one night to discover that the chicken on his plate was being referred to by name.

yep and yep...

Used to hunt and learned to cut up a deer at a very young age. My Grandfather was a sausage maker and butcher so I got used to seeing cows being butchered as a kid too.

And let me tell ya.. the meats you get in the store today are in no way comparable to free range fresh meats... all them nasty preservatives and things that they feed the stock..... bleeeechh....
