Harry Cerino's Richer Culture.

Post by ChiptBeef »

Harry Cerino has been executive director of The Harvest Foundation in Martinsville, Virginia since May 1, 2003. He worked for Giving Capital in Pennsylvania and the William Penn Foundation in Philadelphia prior to that.

A July 14, 2005 Martinsville Bulletin article "Cerino uncertain of his future," which was not published on their website, states "Harvest Foundation Executive Director Harry Cerino said... he does not know if he still will be with The Harvest Foundation at this time next year. "I'm used to a richer culture," he said..."

A January 24, 2006 Martinsville Bulletin article "Director to head new science foundation" which was published on their website, states "Harry Cerino will leave The Harvest Foundation to head a foundation that is so new it does not have a name. As the new foundations's only employee, he said he could live anywhere so long as it is near an international airport. Since he still owns a house in Philadelphia, he said he may return there in the future."

At least Harry Cerino will be able to find the "richer culture" he missed so much. He can choose from any such culture he finds acceptable near any international airport. He should be happy now.

I'm not surprised. In mid to late 2005, there were allegations of improper reporting against the Harvest Foundation made to the Internal Revenue Service which led to the Harvest Foundation posting their IRS forms on their web page for the first time since they starting making grants. There has not been any public reports by the IRS on the investigation, if any. It's not hard to imagine Harry Cerino taking the money and running all the way back to Philadelphia. :sneaky:

The plot thickens. In a January 26, 2006 Martinsville Bulletin article "Albaum resigns post at museum" we learn;

"The Virginia Museum of Natural History will be seeking a new director of planning and external affairs following the resignation of Jan Albaum. She is the wife of Harry Cerino, who submitted his resignation last weekend as executive director of The Harvest Foundation. Albaum, who has been with the museum since October 2004... said she will be looking for a new position, possibly in the Philadelphia, PA area where she and her husband may relocate in a few months."

Prior to Albaum's job with the museum, The Harvest Foundation had granted just under $40,000 to them. Since Albaum started her job with the museum, The Harvest Foundation has granted $1,089,000 to them. I guess we are to believe that's just the hand of fate. ;)
