the jury was out a total of 3 hours, and returned a GUILTY of first degree murder, two counts. she'll be sentenced within 30 days, and it will be life without possibility of parole. she sat there stone-faced, but her parents cried at the verdict. ironically, today would have been the boys' 9th birthdays.

I have no pity for her. She should have been given the death sentence. Those boys didn't get any mercy. I feel sorry for her parents, though.

had lunch today with a deputy who works the jail, and i asked if she was on a suicide watch since the verdict came in. (which is routine) he said no, but at briefing they were told to watch her, she's been 'acting weird'. sentencing is jan. 27.

Do you think its finally sinking in what's she's done?knowing her as well as i do, i'd say yes, she's adapted to her surroundings and the people, probably become institutionalized as it were, and is afraid of the unknown, i.e. prison. i don't think she ever really felt any pangs of conscience, it's all about HER. she has always been in protective custody and considered herself special because she's smarter than the average crack whore in the jail. very demanding within her rights. ...i used to warn the deputies at the jail to watch her carefully every anniversary of the shootings, st. patricks day, but her demeanor never changed.

subpeona to baby killer trial?
Just read this whole thread.....what a horrifying story. Wow. She makes me sick. Think I would find some videos of those little boys and pipe them into her jail cell....forever. My little 5 yr old boy gave me quite some trouble tonight going to bed and now he just came downstairs (wayyyyyy after bedtime...) and I didn't even care what his excuse was this time. I just scooped his skinny little body up onto my lap and rubbed his back and smelled his hair.....oh it feels so good to be a mommy to him. I appreciate every moment with my babies.

Tommy Demeniuk clutched this photo as he gave his victim impact statement.
Judge Gives Mother Life Sentence For Each Of Slain Sons
POSTED: 5:15 pm EST January 27, 2006
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- A mother who murdered her twin 4-year-old sons in 2001 will spend the first night of her two life sentences behind bars Friday.
Leslie Demeniuk sat emotionless as her fate was announced. She already knew it would be life in prison -- the mandatory sentence.
Her attorney argued Demeniuk shot and killed her boys because prescription drugs caused her to be temporarily insane, but the jury did not buy the story.
The boys' father, Tommy Demeniuk, presented one of two victim impact statements at Friday's hearing.
Tommy Demeniuk clutched a photograph of himself with his sons during happier times as he told the judge all about the boys, their favorite books and games. He made no mention of Leslie Demeniuk.
Nobody took the stand in defense of Leslie Demeniuk, although her stepfather, Eric Shoenig, told reporters after the hearing that she was a victim, too.
"The gun that really killed our grandsons was not the gun that Leslie Demeniuk fired, but the gun that the pharmaceutical companies put in her hand," Shoenig said.
Before the sentencing, Leslie Demeniuk's lawyer asked the judge to set aside the verdict. That was denied and Leslie Demeniuk was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences, one for each of the little boys.

How can there be worse??
I am not being smart I would really like to know .
I think anyone that does anything to kids has to be the worst:mad:we're housing some serial killers, when i say 'worse' it's sheer volume. we have other baby-killers too. she was pc, protective custody, the entire time we had her. she swore to sue everyone from the sheriff on down. she demanded things every day, from the nurse to the officers. asked for special favors. some officers were ok with it, some hated her guts. she went on a hunger strike once because the cell she was in wasn't exactly a day at the ritz. i was at the jail and gave her some cartons of milk. in return i was told i'd be subpeonaed. i told her she better not call me. she didn't.
