HEy! I need some cultural HELP

My Granddaughter (14) has an assignment to write about the year 1981..she has to find out prices, new technology, popular music, movies, medical breakthroughs, etc. The one that is bugging us (me) is SLANG....what the heck were kids saying in 1981 that they aren't saying now?? Or didn't say before. i can't think of a thing.

Anyone from that era???

I'll try. Musically, Duran Duran and Michael Jackson (Thriller). Cosmetically, Blue mascara and Lady Diana flippy hairdos. Rugby pants. I believe Betamax was the big thing in VCRs (the first) but that only lasted about a year. Atari was the big video game innovation (Asteroids and Q-Bert). I can't think of much slang that isn't still common ie "Cool". Flashdance might have been at that time moviewise. So add to the rugby pants an off the shoulder sweatshirt and leg warmers. I think we're pushing 1984 though.

Shuddering at those images Koan, but I was living that era as well. We said "man" alot.
