Rescuers scramble to save miners trapped by fire

Friends, family and neighbors of the miners are waiting for news at a local church.

Rescue teams are racing against time to find two miners separated from their crew as they were escaping a fire, officials said. "Time is not our friend," said West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin. "The longer the time goes, the more difficult it becomes, so we're concerned about that." The accident comes less than a month after the disaster at the Sago Mine, also in West Virginia, where 12 miners died.

the two miners have been found dead. no further details yet, this just broke.

Two miners found dead

West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin reacts to the news.

The bodies of two miners trapped after a fire broke out in a West Virginia coal mine were found dead Saturday, West Virginia's mine safety chief Doug Conaway said. "The mine rescue teams made a valiant effort to locate these folks," he said.
