prostitution
I've been reading about an actor who recalled meeting a couple of hookers and engaging in a pleasant chat.
One of them said to him
"It must be awful having to do a love-scene with someone you don't like"

LOL. I applaud you, Openmind, for not backing down from your position, however misguided I think it is.
As for my malicious streak, I'll admit to it in open forum. I get passionate, I get emotional, and yes, sometimes I can be malicious. It comes out the most when I percieve that someone has stood up for values that I consider detestable. Such as yourself equating marriage to prostitution and wives to prostitutes.
That's an infammatory postion if ever I heard one!
But as to your stand on prostituion, I still feel that it should be illegal. Ladycops rather graphic post identifies the problems associated with this trade. You propose that regulation will eliminate these problems.
I tell you that no amount of regulation will ever eliminate these problems.

LC they should make a new law which says "Any1 who is charged with prostitution should be forced to be steralised"
think rationally people if this was a law then there'd be alot less children having to be removed from familys due to this............... and half the time a prostitute can't name the father of the baby cos they're not sure which punter it is....
"they are hurt and adrift and often crack-addicted, nomatter what. at least if we take them, they aren't in a car at 0100 with a 4 day old diaper on while mommy is plying her trade. would making it legal protect the babies? i might reconsider my position if it did. but i am sworn to uphold laws as they stand, not pick and choose what laws i approve of. what i DON'T comprehend is why these females never heard of birth control, you would think it would be a tool of the trade."
if they made this new law then the poor babies wouldn't have to suffer.......... i have "rattled" off drugs and believe me i was in agony crying it was so bad....... i'd hate to imagine what it'd feel like to a baby

Call me a stickler, but shouldn't they at least be convicted first?
Hey, if we legalize it, it could be a condition of licensing to have a hysterectomy or at least that 3-month (or is is a year) under-the-skin contraceptive.

Sometimes, I will say something inflammatory to juxtapose an argument. However, I believe that a marriage sworn in love and continued in love, is one of the greatest institutions of civilization. I did say that I was raised by my grandparents who loved each other to their dying days.
Neither do I agree with prostitution. The reasons for my disagreement would take up a thread by itself. Nonetheless, I cannot see it going away whatever tact we adopt. I believe that a legal and regulated brothel would not present the problems associated with prostitution if only because of the need to stay in business.
This would not stop certain individuals from continuing their illegal activities. But they would stand out more and possibly this would make them easier to find. It is unfortunate that there will always be an element of society that live and behave as vermin. For some, this is a choice. For others, they have been driven to this position. Sometimes I think it would be better to provide a place where they can be without affecting the rest of society. But even that would not be a complete solution and presents its own problems.
The only thing we are really in disagreement about, Jives, is the method by which we can control or eliminate this abhorence. (Albeit, you might wish to take me to task for my method of argument.)
As for passion, Jives, I think that subject merits a thread by itself.

Thanks for the compliment, by the way. I have always been considered an argumentative and stubborn sod. However, my views are constantly modified this way, along with study.

Hey Clancy, it seems to be the norm tonight. ALL the @ssholes decided to come out and play. Fortunately they don't come often and they don't stay long.
BTS's own wife has said that he does sh!t like this just "because he can." So it's not an open minded conversation he wants, it's not a two-way discussion, it's a reaction. Don't give it to him and the feeble little snail will go away.

bts is banned for a bit. hopefully a cooler head will prevail when he returns, and he can contribute to FG in a more productive fashion.

Let me refresh some memories. ForumGarden has just a couple of basic rules:
1. No spam.
2. No personal attacks.
Number 2 seems to be a hard one for some people to abide by. If you can't debate your point without dragging in name-calling and personal insults, then you have no business being here.
Clear? For those who have difficulty with these rules, please PM me and I'll promptly show you the door.

since FG isn't an oligarchy, however, i'll point out that this admin/op is more tolerant of some personal attacks than tombstone. we all succumb to the "yeah? so's your mother!" thing from time to time. it's part and parcel with dealing with lots of different people, with lots of different ideas and ways of approaching life. perhaps my leniency in that regard is because i've been quite an abuser of that approach in the past. do as i say, not as i do, so to speak.
for me, it's when the personal attacks won't stop, even when they're unrelated to anything going on in the discussion. repeatedly attacking someone for past grievances is where i/we draw the line. the occasional outburst in frustration is one thing. carrying a grudge from topic to topic is entirely another.
we can't force people to be nice to each other. for that matter, 'nice' is only one of a hundred million different ways of interacting with our fellow bipedally locomotive provocateurs. so you don't have to play 'nice' all the time. just don't be nasty all the time.
